| Neutering generally will calm them down a bit, as will age. It also stops or reduces marking behaviors, prevents them from getting a female pregnant, usually stops humping, eliminates testicular cancer, and much more. In general, I think neutering your male makes for a better pet. Cost can vary greatly depending on where you live and/or where you get the surgery done. I got Jackson neutered for $65 a low-cost spay clinic but I've seen some people pay up to $500 when you add in all the pain meds, pre-op bloodwork, etc.

| Okay, thanks! Also, how long does it take for them to recover, and how will he act after he gets neutered? |

| I had Bailey neutered at around 6 months, I haven't noticed any difference in his activity level, but I feel better having him neutered. I'm in eastern Canada and paid $310 for the neuter alone, no blood work or meds.

| We just had Peanut neutered on Thursday...he had pre-op blood work, 3 puppy teeth removed and one of them needed an inscision to remove it, teeth cleaning, polishing and gel protectant applied and he was (chriptorchid) neutered. All of that along with his consultation, a bag of tarter control treats and his pain meds was $560.00. I know prices vary depending on your location and whether or not there are puppy teeth to be removed so yours may be more or less depending on what needs to be done. Peanut was better the next day...he acted like nothing had happened, he was back to his regular diet and didn't even need any pain meds. Peanut is 4 1/2 pounds and 19 months old and he did just fine. |

YT Addict | As someone stated it depends on what you have done that that will decipher what you pay, but also some areas are cheaper than others. In my area there are a lot of quality low cost clinics, other people can't find a single one. As far as personality, as far as I know nothing will change. He may calm down a little bit but probably not much. A lot of people still have super hyper babies I was worried my girl would change after spay but nothing at all has changed.

| I had Sushi neutered at 6 months at a low cost clinic for 120 including milk teeth removal, pre-op bloodwork....it would've cost around $700 at the regular prices here in the DC-VA area. It's crazy what they charge...He has not calmed down at all, still crazily hyper with endless energy and he still humps (I suppose his humping would've been much worse as he was doing it every night nonstop at 5.5 months and now it's not as persistent. |

| Neutering may help calm him down a little. It will definitely help prevent marking as he gets older. As far as the cost, you should call your regular vet and ask them their fees. Around here, the cost varies a lot from doctor to doctor.

| I was exactly like you a few months ago as a matter of fact I was extremely nervous about getting Coco neutered but finally I did. He got neutered at 6 months. Everything went extremely well, he's still his old hyper self lol, although you can tell a difference, for instance when I train him he's much more focused compared to how he used to before when he wasn't neutered. He doesn't hump anymore and doesn't mark either. The clinic had charged me 200$ including pre-op blood test and the operation itself. Oddly enough my vet didn't prescribe any pain meds although Coco seemed to be well he didn't look like he was in pain and surprisingly was back to himself in just a day! I guess it depends on the dog but talk to your vet before the procedure and he'll be able to specify all the information according to your pup's needs Let us know how it goes!! Good luck |

| Hot Rod is pretty calm anyhow so I can't say if neutering really did anything in that respect. He's pretty loving.

| Neutering will help but he will also start calming down because of age
