| Yorkie's hair smells TERRIBLE! Any ideas why? When my niece lets her Yorkie outside to do her business, she comes back inside with a very smelly coat. She doesn't roll in anything dirty. It's like she picks up odors from the air!! I suggested to her that maybe she has a urinary tract infection and she is smelling the pee. Does anyone have an opinion why a Yorkie's coat would smell bad?? Thanks!

| Could it be poopy caught in the hair around her you-know-what?

| My Daisy is the same way. I think they do pick up odors from the air. the smell usually goes away after a few minutes back indoors. Have you ever noticed that when it is cold and snowing outside they smell like the cold, if such a thing is possible, when they come in. It reminds me of the way the freezer smells inside. I can smell it on my kids too. |

| No, it's not poopy. My niece said her dog was clean all over and it just had a very bad odor. It happens every time the dog comes in from the outside. I'll tell her that there is another dog on the forum that has the same problem. Would still like to know why, though. Thanks

YT Addict | Just going out on a limb here as I am by no means an expert.. But is it possible that when she's outside doing her business, well when they poopie they excrete whatever is in the anal sacs, right? Is that correct? So maybe this smell is sticking around for a little while?? I know at the grooming shop I work at when we do the anals, it does smell for a good bit after it's even been washed. It just hangs around in the air a long time. So since you don't usually bathe a dog every time after they poopie, maybe that's what is happening? I'm not 100% sure if that's when the anal sacs are supposed to be emptying naturally every time they go potty. But maybe it's some of that liquid you may not see but is there. Or just the smell lingering?

| Well, it sure could be that the anal sacs are not excreting properly. I didn't think about that. I think she has her groomed regularly. I'll tell her. Thanks.

YT Addict | Well if shes groomed regularly it might not be that BUT I do know that some of the dogs we get in weekly get anals and they are full the majority of the time but I honestly don't know much about the medical of this. I'm just learning.
