| Vets and Diet....urghhh..HELP ME. Okay, a few weeks ago we thought Sadie had tapeworms, took her to the vets, got some meds, then she got diarrhea really bad, and threw up a lot in one night so we ended up in ER vets, found out it was a stomach bacteria, s shaped kind, started antibiotics, fed chicken and rice and pumpkin, she got better. then a few days after we thought it was over, she threw up in our bed, but only once, then started the runnier stools again...took her back to the reg. vet and it's still stomach bacteria, got a diff. antibiotic, some tummy stuff, and some dried probiotic type stuff to put back the good bacteria. also...they wanted to put her on a Hill's Science Diet brand of prescription food, canned turkey and rice for a bland diet for her tummy. i tried it last night and she got the worst case of itching i've ever seen her have. now i've suspected she was allergic to corn or something due to what i've read about Royal Canin and yorkies that are allergic to it. i stopped feeding that stuff to her (i fed it only every so often when her all natural diet wasn't thawed out well yet) and her skin prob. seemed to get better, i also started on multivitamins and daily fish oil in her foods and some olive oil in it as well. she did much better, dry skin cleared up, and less itching. i think the R.C. was partially to blame for the itches due to the corn.... so the new food has corn in it too. she was terribly itchy last night, worst case ever, so i don't want to feed that nasty crap to her anymore... but in trying to talk to the vet about this, i got this new guy at Banfield (i know stupid for going there, but it's affordable and I like our regular vet we see) anyways this new guy didn't even know what was wrong with her to begin with, didn't listen to me try to tell him, and just started in on me about her natural diet going to not be good for her ext ext ext for like a half hour he talked to the point i quit even listening or trying to get a word in...all i had wanted to know was should i just try boiled chicken and rice until her tummy is settled...he says no that's not got enough nutrition in it because all the stuff is cooked out (acted like i meant to switch her over to that Forever, wouldn't let me finish that it was only for a few days.....WHAT!?!?!? what does he think they do with this turkey rice crap that the vets gave me....they cook the stuff duhhhh....anyways he went on and on about how bad natural diets are for them...and never did answer my question about can i feed her chicken and rice for a FEW DAYS?? so finally i gave up on him and all vets, i'm feeding her boiled chicken and rice, with a little carrot and pumpkin in it, still giving the meds and other stuff, but just NOT their canned dog killer foods. am i crazy or doing the right thing here!?!? i just don't trust their knowledge right now, it's making her itch, it's not right for her, and i don't want to switch her to some stupid hypoallergenic foods with soy, SOY!?! that's worse than corn...i want MEATS people not filler. anyways i'm pissed and very upset and wondering if i'll ever find a vet that's good with pet nutrition and not trying to shove science diet and royal canin down my throat. plus her natural diet is NOT what caused her bacteria, all the vets that have seen her have said that. what to do.....these vets are driving me crazy, after our year plan is up i'm finding me a new vet no matter how much more it costs. thanks for hearing my venting and please leave advice. __________________ |

| Not sure but... We were feeding RC and Roxie had terrible allergies! We switched her food back and she did much better. We also cant use the prescription Science Diet Roxie eats it too fast and vomits... When they are sick we feed the boiled chicken and white rice, and a little of the pumpkin for 5-7 days then back to the hard food. It gives their tummy some time to get back to normal. Good luck... sorry I cant help much... just thought I would let you know what we do! Hope Sadie is feeling better soon!
