| Very Good Question.. After speaking with a lot of manufacturers on the issue in the past, they recommend once you open the packaging, you should use it all within 45 days, to prevent it from going rancid. That doesn't mean you can't buy 5 - 5lb bags at once, but that gets a little risky, since most natural dog foods usually contain 8 to 14 months before expiration. Less if where you buy it from doesn't cycle it fast. Another thing is, always keep the food in the manufacturer packaging, most are designed to keep the food fresh as long as possible. If you have a storage container, put the whole bag in the container, don't poor the kibble out. The container will keep the bugs out. Iris, makes really good containers for 5.5 bags. Light (causes the oils to go rancid faster) bag's are not see through for a reason. |
