| Tito is affraid of bowls. Doesnt eat or drink. Help please! Hi Everybody, My Tito seems to be affraid of bowls. He has used metal bowls, clay bowls, platic bowls. I've had Tito since 5 weeks old. I started noticing this behaviour since december 2009. He wouldn't eat his food but would drink water. So I got him a new dinning set for christmas to see if that would cure the problems, it did not. I thought the refelection and shinniness (if thats a word, lol) was distracting him. So I went out and got clay bowls. He still doesn't go near them. I tryed to see how he would eat. He eat off a dish and off the floor by himself. Tito will only drink & eat out of a bowl if its hand-held. I have been told not to baby Tito. By friends and Ceaser Millian says the same thing. I do not know what to do. Now since the snow (all winter long he ate snow) is gone and it rains. It has created puddles. Tito drinks from them like he has never seen water before. I am having a brid cuz hes a small guy that comes with large vet bills, lol. Seriously, does anyone knows any tips to get him to drink and eat from bowls. Or know anyone that can help us. Thank you so very much for your time. |

| Your dog will eat or drink if it gets hungry enough. I know Teddi is scared of the bowls but she sneaks up on it and grabs one kibble and then runs in the living room to eat it. She doesn't seem to mind the water as much but you dog won't starve himself. I'm sure because you had babied him he is used to it. Just leave the food there and if he doesn't eat one day he will definitely eat the next day!

| Darn, I posted a reply and it did not load up. I'll try to remember what I posted. What about paper? I used to feed my cat her wet food on a paper plate. Also, if your dog drinks from puddles, what about using a larger container with water. A 9x13 in pan or larger. Something that is shallow and spacious. Good luck!

| You said you had him since he was 5 weeks? Was Tito always afraid of bowls or was it that you started feeding him by holding the bowl for him and such? I had Magnus since he was 4-5 weeks as well but he has absolutely no issue with eating/drinking out of his clay or plastic bowls. Actually, he doesn't care what it's in as long as there's something there to eat. LOL I agree with Ronlynn, he'll probably eat if he's hungry enough. Or perhaps you can try mixing in some boiled chicken with his regular food to see if that would entice him to get him to eat out of it by himself? Good luck! |

| My Gracie is the same way too. I used to hand feed her one kibble at a time. I finally tried putting her up to the bowl at the same time Goldie is eating or drinking and that seemed to help a lot. She would go to the bowl when Goldie was there to "back her up", lol. Now she's become more comfortable with them, but she still does "drive bys" on her food bowl, grab one and run. |

| How old is he now? Cerise is scared of bowls too. I put her food in a small heart shaped dish or small saucer and she will only drink her water out of a very small coffee cup at home or bottle caps when we are away from home. So I carry a large one with us to pour water in. For the cup at first it was hand held only, but now I see she does drink the water when I'm at work.

Ronlynn, I tried that to a degree. He didnt eat or drink 3 days. He started to eat things in the park. that got him sick and a trip to the ER. He Begged & still does whine/whimper uncontrolable. Yes I know he has been babied and spoiled. I dont know what my parents have done with him while he is in their care. I guess I have to try for a bit longer and not give in so easily. I cant resisit those brown eyes

| Have you tried a flat plate for food and a water bottle for water? I would try that for awhile and see if he can get use to it. I've seen the water bottles that stand alone on the floor. Hope this helps. |

Yes I have had Tito since 5 weeks old. when her was a tiny tiny guy he ate from a plate. He couldnt put his head over hte rim of the bowl, LOL those were funny momments. He ate and drank from a regular set of bowls at like 8-10 weeks old. I dont believe in hand feeding him. Even with wet food in a bowl Tito will bark at it and pace around it. I have to hold the bowl for him to eat it. I left the bowl there for hours and he didnt eat it.

| A trainer suggested to a friend of mine... new dishes (non-reflective) in a new spot. Day by day, move the dishes (as he gets comfy) closer and closer to where you want them. I saw a thingy on line, to turn any water bottle, into a waterball, water bottle. It screws on, in place of the cap, and you hang it up somehow?!? Now I can't find it! Has anyone else seen it? I am thinking of replacing the bowl (and wet beards) before next winter...
