| I posted on another thread out of humor, but my Moka has a Humping Monkey. That is a stuffed monkey that she is intimate with. It is the only thing she is affectionate over. She is discrete as well only humping her monkey right before she goes to bed. Then, she curls up with it and uses it as a pillow. This is her routine every night. I don't know about it being a dominance thing, she can't tell me that, but based on observation alone, I'd say she thinks it feels good! LOL! But if I tell her no or to stop she will and she will only do it once or twice before she is done. Not like she is obcessed over it. Monkey doesn't seem to mind it. |

| Personally I just think it is instinct. Something God placed in every animal so that the circle of life continues. I would not be ashamed if my little one was to "do her bear" in the presence of company. She is a DOG after all and as far as she is concerned she is not doing anything bad. Potty training on the other hand is for us and I am hoping that will go a little faster in the next month or two...but if the humping continues after she is spayed....oh well...LOL |

Frisco is a humper, when he isn't playing ball or something interesting. We wrassle a lot, and I never let him 'get on my arm', but in experimental observation today, at some maybe 5 mos or so, I see he could pull quite a stint with the ladies, judging by his manner with teddies. So, do I 'nip it in the bud', embarrass him into the next room, cover my eyes and groan, take the teddy away, yell at him, what. No, I sure wouldn't let a great dane do my couch... Conflicted... I assume an Alpha mom would just break it up when she was in a bad mood?

| My 1.5 year old humps my sister's stuffed animals once in awhile, I believe it's just for pleasure. |

| Yeah I kind of think it is too but I don't really know. I don't say anything to her about it. I just ignore it but I have said "stop Jazz" and she will. She does kind of look at me like "what?" but then I just pick up a toy and throw it for her and she gets her mind on other things. Wish it was that easy with my husband....LOL....I don't think he would chase the toy anyway!!! LOL>>>>> |

| Glad I found this thread. I was starting to worry that there was something wrong with Roxie. She pulls her bed pillow out of her cage and humps away for hours. She doesn't do it everyday, but maybe every few weeks. I have read about male dogs doing this, but I was having a hard time finding posts about females doing this.

| Lillie humps her "Mr. Bill" stuffed animal like she gets paid for it! It's hard for me to decipher wether or not she's being dominant or if its pleasure to her. Reason why, is because she will hump that little Mr. Bill until she tips over and falls on the ground sideways, with her legs still going and all! It is sooo funny. At first I laughed so hard, but now it's kinda grossin' me. I feel like they DO have an urge so I let her hump before bed, because it wears her little furbutt OUT then she is sleeping all through the night now. She doesn't hump anything but that Mr. Bill so I just let it go....I had NO CLUE girls humped until my little baby turned 5 months old! HAHA!

Jeanie, I agree with you 100%. I, too, consider humping to be an inappropriate behavior that needs to be corrected.

| Hahaha!! Everything you just described is my Bella to a tee. To a TEE!!! Even after spaying! I think it's normal. My parents' chihuahua (RIP) used to hump other dogs--and she was spayed as well! Like the others said, it's very likely to be a dominance thing.

| I wanted to add, I agree that it's never a good idea for the dog to hump a human. Bella fortunately knows better, and so does Rocco. I don't see any harm in them humping a favorite toy, however.
