| On Orijen but prefers Royal Canin Toby is on Orijen, but doesnt seem that keen on it. He never finishes his food when it is put down, but then sniffs about the floor as if he is hungry and looking for something else to eat. It is not underweight, but is definitely very very lean, and could afford to bulk up a bit. I got Maisey on Sunday, and she is on Royal Canin. I have put a few bit of this in Tobys dish and he picks it out and eats it and leaves the Orijen behind. I know Orijen is the better food, but if he isnt eating it, am I better moving to Royal Canin for both.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Funny you brought this up as I logged in to ask the same thing..I do not mean to hijack your thread but since we are asking the same.. I hope you don't mind.Max is on Royal Canine for 5 years now,and we are transitioning to Natures Variety, Sophie on the other hand was on Ukanuba (sp) and I want them both to be on NV. I bought a few NV can to mix and entice them, but once they leak the can food, both seem to go for the RC and leave the NV. Its like having a teenage kid, Mom knows what's good for them, but they couldn't care less

| Here's my two cents worth. We have tried Taste of the Wild, Diamond Naturals, Natural Balance and Merrick. Daisy would just pick at them all. My mini schnauzer is diabetic and has to eat Royal Canin Diabetic formula. My yorkie, Daisy loved it but the diabetic formula wasn't good for her so we have tried the Royal Canin Yorkie formula. She loves it and I don't have to beg her to eat anymore. I know there are much higher rated dog foods, but what good is that if your dong won't eat it? My opinion, choose the highest quality food that your dog will eat. |

| I would def use what works best for your dog. Unless they are having some sort of negative reaction to the food like too much poop, itchies, hair loss, licking paws etc I wouldn't change. Each dog is different. Use what works best for you and your pup Orijen is a fantastic food but not suited for every Yorkie. If your destined to feed a certain type of food, get a few samples and see which one your dog prefers. Good Luck Snick & Viv

| My personal opinion is that any hungry dog will eventually eat. If you feel convicted to feed a higher quality food, I would just continue to feed it and eventually he'll catch on. The reason dogs like lower quality foods better is because the manufacturers have to spray fat on kibble to entice the dog. Without it, they'd basically be eating cardboard -- nothing but fillers. The food will fill your dog up and yeah, they'll survive but that doesn't mean they are getting a ton of nutritional value. However, Royal Canin isn't the worst of them either so if you find that your dog absolutely will not eat Orijen then it's okay to feed RC. It all comes down to what you feel comfortable feeding and how well your dog does on it. There is no right or wrong answer. Good luck!

I never knew they sprayed fat on the food. That must be why Jackson went nuts for the RC but ended up with the runs. The fat didnt agree with him. He would pick out the RC as well and never touch the other but it had a bad affect on him so just gave up on it. | |

On the other hand, he really loves his Nature's Variety Instinct which I think is an excellent food and it's the first healthy food I've found that he loves!

| Same here, Bear (3.5 months) is on Royal Canine and he really likes it. I tried Puppy Plate and Nature Variety ( raw and kibble ) and he is not too happy about either. |

| I was thinking about trying my dogs on Natures Variety raw but I was looking on line for it and saw some recalls of some of their foods. Is this correct or what is going on with it? It sounds like it might be one of the best foods for allergies. |
