| ugh- weight loss Layla was at the vet today just to have a follow up of her test results. And man- she needs to loose a pound. Ugh I hate when they tell us that- not because I hate taking her for walks (Layla is the one that hates the walks) but because it means we have to cut back on treats. Our vet suggested also cutting back a bit on the starch that Layla gets but I know we need to cut back on treats too. I always feel like I have kinda failed her when they tell us she has gained weight- but come hell or high water- we'll be back down to 6.4 (that just sounds so tiny when she ahs been 7.2 for so long) Anyone else fighting the weight battle? |

| YES, terribly here right now. I know its all my fault. I have been so busy and so concerned with Ginger and her health that I didn't notice that my Molly had gained a few extra pounds (yes, FEW). I always free feed but for the past month I have been measuring EVERYTHING and I still feel like she isn't losing much weight. We went on a walk yesterday and Max was practically dragging her up our street at the end (she is so out of shape). So I am really having to buckle down. Molly is good at 8-9lbs but I think is somewhere in the 11lb range now. So I am going to have to get in as many walks as I can before it gets too cold. I totally know how you feel.

| I had to get about 1lb off Jada. She has a tiny frame and LP and the vet didn't want her gaining much over 5 lbs. She got to about 6 1/2 (all my fault) She was such a picky eater when we first got her (2 yr old rehome) I was adding stuff to her kibble to get her to eat. She has lost down to 5 12oz and all I did was add frozen green beans to her kibble and cutting back about 1/3 on her kibble. The green beans are fillers and don't have many calories. I also changed to all fresh veggies for treats. I will also give her boiled chicken as a treat about once a week. I read this info on a thread here when trying to help her lose weight. Good Luck, if you are like me I hate to think I am taking away treats and stuff she loves, but her health in the long run is more important.

| We are fighting this battle in our house. I feed Lacey dry Natural Balance and add boiled chicken breast and fresh string beans to every feeding. Is this too much chicken? |

| IF the homecooked portion is more than 10% and you aren't adding supplements, then it is too much. Other than that, chicken is still calories. So if she is overweight, the chicken could be a problem. It really depends on how much you give and how many calories she should be getting daily.

| Yes, it is over 10%. I have been giving here half chicken and string beans and the other half is the Natural balance (dry). I will cut back on this immediately. Thanks for your input Ellie May! |

| If you want to do it that way, a nutritionist can balance the recipe for you so it is safe for Lacey.

| We try to feed according to Punkin's activity level. When she is more active on a particular day we feed her a bit more. It helps us maintain her weight more consistently. We weigh her on the kitchen scale with wax paper covering it every few weeks to make sure she is maintaining her weight. It is kinda funny to see her perched on it! We also break her treats into smaller pieces on the days when she is not as active - so she still gets her same treats at the same times, just less. One other thing we have noticed is that how long Punkin's hair is at the time we weigh her has an impact on her weight. If your little one is close to needing a haircut and the last time she she was weighed she had just had a haircut, it can make a difference of quite a few ounces. |
