What is wrong with my Yorkie? I just got a Yorkie on Saturday from my cousin, her name is Pixie. She'll be a year old around December. Well, so far we've gotten her to pee outside (I gave her treats and praise) but she won't poop out there. I put the poop she did in the house out in the grass as suggested by my Aunt. Secondly, it was raining outside today and she started dragging her rear end in the grass (she did this in the house too) and my bf said she might have worms. She didn't do this at all within the past few days til now. I checked her latest poop and it didn't have anything in it that I could see. So, I googled what is wrong and came up with either it's her anal glands needing expressed or she's in heat. She dragged in the kitchen and it was a brownish stain so IDK what is going on, whether it's anal gland secretion, heat blood or just from her butt being wet (would they drag it to dry it out?) I gave her a bath yesterday because she was smelly (even though my Aunt said she gave her one on Saturday before she brought her over.) Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to get her to poop outside (instead of in the living room or in the kitchen) and tell me why she's dragging her butt and what I can do about it?

Where did she poop before she came to live with you? As far as the anal glands your vet can express them for you at minimal charge or a groomer. Buddy scoots across the floor in the hallway, out side of our unit, after going poop at times. His anal glands are fine so I guess he has an itch sometimes. It is my understanding that the glands reek when they need to be expressed. If she stinks it could be that. I would take her outdoors to poop about two hrs after she eat's. Walk her and treat if she poops outdoors. I would not allow her full run of your home until she poops outdoors. If this becomes a habit to her to poop indoors she'll never go outside.

| You need to get her to the vets for a checkup first before you do anything else. She could have worms, she could have ear mites, she could need teeth pulled, she could have impacted anal-glands and you and everyone else would be guessing..so take her to the vet so you have a wellness check done and then you can go from there.

I bathed and cut her yesterday, I inspected her ears already, they look fine, her teeth are pure white and look good too (I noticed that when I got her Saturday) and she was kinda funny about holding her under her rear end after her bath, which makes me think she's just sensitive because of her anal glands being full. I will keep an eye on her habits in the next few days and if she don't stop dragging, I will get her to a vet soon. Will the glands empty themselves if she drags enough? That's the only question I do have.

Sometimes I think they need to "wipe" their hiney's and then do so on the rug. Yuck! But it could also be worms or anal glands. I would clean her hiney up and see if it was just a one time thing or not. If she continues, definately have a stool sample taken and a vet checkup.

She might manage tro get the anal glands to release themselves. None of my dogs have ever had anal gland issues, so IDK. Did you take a tissue or cotton ball and wipe out her ears? If they are dirty it could be mites. It would probably be a good idea to take her in for a check since she hasn't had one. You could call around to different ones and get prices on a checkup.

Sometimes they drag their rears because they have poop hung up. You need to keep the hair on their rears trimmed so that the poop does not get hung up in their hair. It can be very painful for them when they poop if there is a hang up back there.
