| It was taken off the market last year because of problems, then certain vets were given it to test and track on their clients. You don't own a guinea pig?

| I am very minimal when it comes to vaccines/etc, but heartworm meds I don't mess with. Any reason you don't give them every month?

| Over 400 deaths. Pulled from market. Preservative thought to be the problem. Formulation changed around. May be fine now. Vets have to sign their lives away to use it. lol Wouldn't touch it.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | My question would be "is it safe now? If so, why/how?". It's a great concept without a doubt, but wasn't safe.

| My vet told me that she has been using it for 6 years and has only ever had 1 pet that's had a reaction to it and it was vomiting. I was at the vet office and hadn't heard of it before so I went ahead and had Roxie injected because honestly, I never remember to give her the monthly pill and Roxie has never had worms. Roxie didn't have any side effects with the shot (she also got distemper at the same time and wasn't even lethargic). She is 8 years old and is in very good health. I would say it's been 3 weeks since she had it and I haven't noticed any change in her. I probably wouldn't have done it if I knew there had been so many issues, but it seemed to work fine for her. |

| I would never touch this.. no matter how safe they deem it to be now. There have been way too many deaths on it for me to ever trust it.

| resending...said I was not logged in....very confusing... They now have ProHeart 12 out now. I mentioned to my Vet that my Maverick has problems taking heartworn and tick/flea pills. I just moved to New Jersey from Georgia in April 2022 and me and Maverick both had tick issues this past summer. I tried using cheese with the pills and later pet pockets and Maverick can still smell and ignore the pills. I'm now using Seresto collar for the ticks....so far no side effects. My vet gave me the flyer for Proheart 12 and I'm not convinced. I have to figure out another solution for heart medicine to fool my smart yorkie to take a monthly pill. Any suggestions? I tried cheese, peanut butter, pet pockets and cutting the pills up and he still finds a way to avoid a portion of the pill. Not sure how much of the pill will help with heartworms. Please excuse this rookie for asking so many questions. My wife passed away before Christmas and now Maverick relies on me as his protector. He goes everywhere with me to include all my Doctor appointments. Walt |

| So sorry for your loss. I use Greenie Pill Pockets. I assume when you say Pet Pockets it's the Greenie pill pocket. Since I have no issues this has worked for me. Before Greenies came out, I hid pills in a Hot Dog, a piece just a bit bigger then the pill, that worked for my now passed girls. I don't like advising hot dogs but taking heart worm pill is very important You're a good dad, taking Maverick everywhere you go. Try the hot dog, see if that works. Good luck

| Have you tried Heartgard? Many of them view them as treats. I have used it for years with no problems.
