my lucky is 5 months old and 8 pounds also. i dont free feed. i use too though, but now i have an auto feeder bought it at petco. have it set for 3 times a day. he gets 1/2 cup each meal. 2x's a day for a snack he eats frozen carrots or smokehouse chicken breat pieces( his favorite) 100% natural chews. i stopped free feeding to pottytrain. i needed to put him on a feeding schedule to get him into a habit of going at a certain time. it really worked for me.

I actually started splitting up his feeding to a 1/2 cup in the morning and a 1/2 a cup at dinnertime. I would like him to get used to eating at those times so that hopefully his potty times will be a little after he eats instead of throughout the day, all day long. He usually poops at least 5 times a day, and he is fed Chicken Soup and sometimes Nutro Lamb and Rice. We'll see how this works.
