Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali has been on it for at least a year and a half. She has mild MVD confirmed by a liver biopsy. Has GI problems including HGE but her vet checked out the Atopica before giving it to her and said she could take it. It has made a dramatic change in her scratching. Her coat has come back in where she had scratched it out, she scratches occasionally but nothing close to what she use to do. She would keep me up at night scratching and I felt so bad for her. We went through all the testing, food elimination and other medicines and nothing worked. I can't get her off the once a day regiment though, I tried every other day and she started scratching again. Her pills run 60.00 a month but well worth it to stop her misery. She doesn't have any side effects but when she first went on she got real sick, lethargic and throwing up so her vet had her on a low dose of a steroid for the first 2 weeks and she was fine after that.

| Ellie is going on it today and we (the vet and I) don't want to do this, but we are out of options. We are just hoping her liver doesn't suffer for it, and the immunosuppressive aspect is making me nervous. It's good to hear that Cali does well on it though.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali has been on it for at least a year and a half and her liver values were done a few months ago and they were normal. My vet was so happy she came in singing!! So I hope Ellie does as well.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | You know our story, but I'll say it here in case others may benefit. Marcel is only around 3lbs and our vet told us he simply could not be on Atopica. Well, you know that was not the right answer for me. We went to a Vet Dermatologist (BEST arm and a leg ever spent) and he was put on Atopica, every day for about a month, he is now on it 3 days per week. His paw licking/biting went from about an 8/10 (he'd wake up at 1am to gnaw at his paws bc they were bothering him) to about a 1-2/10. We noticed relief for him within 8 days - but it can take up to 3 mths to see full therapeutic results. We've seen no side effects whatsoever. Caveats from the Derm: if your dog is small (less than 4lbs) and/or if they have nausea, you *can* give the med w/ meal instead of not w/ the meal. It is an expensive med, but if you can get relief w/ giving the med 3x week, then it only costs about $20 a month.
