Shunt dog with fleas...yukk...I hate fleas Hi all - my Nelli has fleas...she had shunt surgery about a month ago and I put frontline on her about two weeks ago which doesn't seem to have worked. I'm not sure if it has something to do with her liver or not? Anyway, I did a little searching on your forums...do you suggest I try using the "cedarcide" product? of course I am nervous about using too many chemicals on her, especially with her liver. Any info will be much appreciated...

Honestly, I wouldn't do more chemicals on an LS baby right now. Dawn Dish Soap kills them. Give her a bath and use the soap, let it sit for 5 mins on her and clean and use a flea comb. You may have to do this a couple times.

I have been giving her a bath every other day with baby shampoo, but I will try the Dawn bath this time. Will the flea comb help with getting rid of the unseen fleas or eggs or larvae or whatever else is hidden? lol

How much does she weigh? If you used Frontline Plus on her 2 weeks ago, it *should* be working. What type of Frontline did you use? I have heard that you need to bath in the Dawn Dish Soap. Get her wet, and lather her up. Then wrap her in a towel and hold her for about 5 mins or a little longer, giving the Dawn time to work and so she doesn't get cold. Rinse her and towel dry and use the flea comb, then dry her completely. You may need to repeat a few times. Do you have the fleas in your house now too?

| All About Dogs by lowchensaustralia.com: 404 - Page Not Found is some help for you: Please dont' put chemicals on your baby. Between those, commercial pet foods and over inoculating and medicated, is the very reason our companion animals are dieing in record numbers from serious medical problems such as heart failure, kidney & liver disease and much more. Their immune systems get so compromised that they cannot fight off these problems, and so are always bound to have problems.

Thank you all - I did bathe Nelli with the dawn last night and it seemed to be a success. I didn't see any fleas on her this morning. As far as fleas in the house I have been pretty vigilant on spraying and vacuuming to keep that from happening. I'm really hoping it doesn't come to the point of a breakout of fleas in the house - no fun! I'll keep up my fight lol...and we'll see if I see any more on Nelli within the next few days.

NJ is high on the tick states of lyme disease, so according to my Vet, applying Frontline Plus (even to LS babies) is BETTER than the disease, so I am not sure I would quite using it, esp during the high tick months. Where did you buy the Frontline Plus? I also bath mine using the Minksheen shampoo. We also get our yard treated for ticks in the spring.
