| Need advice - My boys too chunky (or big boned...haha) Hi all, this is my first post. I just love reading this site and needed some advice of my own. My boy is a big boy, he currently weighs 13 lbs and is a bit overweight. I am currently feeding him Nature's Recipe Easy to Digest dry dog food. I free feed him but I monitor how much disappears (I always catch my cat eating his food too) and it does not appear he eats too much? He also gets 1 to 2 bones as a treat per day. How much should I be feeding him? Is this food okay? He gets exercise and is very energetic. Any suggestions? I know it is unhealthy for them to be overweight so I need to fix this now. Thanks guys! What a great community! |

| Hello and welcome to YT!!! It should tell on the bag how much you should be feeding him. You might also have to lengthen the amount of walks he gets. Good luck and I know you will get some great advice on here.

| Is he for sure overweight though, or just a bigger Yorkie? Jackson's about 13lbs too but not overweight. It sounds like you're doing everything right- giving him lots of exercise, etc. Nature's Recipe is not a bad food, it's one of the better ones you will find at Petsmart. You can see Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble for more info. That particular food is rated 3 but the ingredients are not that bad to me, it probably could have a little more meat, but other than that, I don't see any red flags. Dog Food FAQs: Frequently Asked Questions on Dog Weight Control Here's a site with some pictures.
