| I paid 445$ for Pasquale's neuter....that also included having 2 teeth removed. I just shake my head and keep reminding myself its Massachusetts.

YT Addict | I did a lot of research for my area. Apparently there are quite a few 'low cost' clinics. Some of you have asked about these and no one really replied. So I will tell you what they are. Not all of them, but the majority of them at least in my area are non-profit. That is how they are so low cost. They don't do things cheaply (cheap as in, cutting corners or half-reared), but they don't offer a full array of services, either. They have heartworm and flea preventative medications, euthanization services (for when it is needed not just to do it randomly), and spay/neuter. I don't remember exactly what else they do, I know they have a few check-up type things they can do and heartworm testing but I forget what else specifically. The spay costs $108 it includes antibiotic and first pain med. If you want extra pain meds its $10 for 2-3 day supply I believe. I do not think this covers a blood panel if one is needed, I'm not sure if they do that at all at their facility. The one I am speaking of specifically is called PAWS. Other low cost clinics are about $100 for spaying, too. Extras for antibiotic and/or pain meds are sometimes present, some others include that in the cost.

| Oy crap...LOL So, I can't bring myself to go the low cost route, I have the girls appointments set for December 7th. It's going to cost approximately 300 per. That includes having their baby canines removed, pre-op bloodwork, IV fluids during, heated table, after procedure pain meds etc... Oh yeah and having them chipped. It is their regular vet, the one that was reluctant to chip them unless they were under anesthesia because she didn't want to hurt them with the big needle...LOL That was about 3 months ago. They have finally reached 5.1 and 4.5 lbs. Not so itty bitty anymore!!! They'll be 7mths old at the end of this month. So, after trolling through the 'boards' it appears that 300 dollars is about average.

Low cost spay and neuter here is around $100. If you get any extra things done i.e. bloodwork, pain meds for post op (here is about $10 for 2-3 days of pain med), etc it always costs extra and any place that is not non-profit also charges their office fees etc. So I think with the spay, microchip, teeth, bloodwork, etc you are getting a really good deal for $300.

| Our vet is very reasonable as he makes most money from livestock, although one of his specialties is small dogs and cats. I just made Sophie's appointment today and here's the breakdown: Spay $75-$80 (depends on weight) Pre-op Blood Work $40 Injection of Pain Meds after surgery $12 Meds to take home $12 Teeth pulled if needed $8-$10 So total would be roughly $150, if I added in my head right (I'm horrible at math, so I'm probably wrong!) |

| wow that is very very reasonable. That works out to half of my costs. The prices seem to vary so wildly that I don't think there is a real 'average' out there..LOL

| I agree that prices vary a lot. Where I live, vets aren't expensive at all, and most of them are excellent vets. Many times when i've talked to other people about vet costs they think that my vet isn't good since he doesn't charge a lot, but I completely disagree. He's cosidered one of the best vets in my area by many people (even people who don't use him say he's one of the best, if not the best, they just don't use him because unless you live close, he's kinda inconvenient to get to.) |
