Leaving moistened food out If you moisten food w/a little water (Innova), how long do you think it's safe to leave out, before thowing it away? Apple is on a "picky kick", and not eating very much..I don't know if she's bored w/her food, having a little teething issue, or because she is at the end of her heat? When I do throw it out (after about an hour), I put down new dry, in her bowl, but I don't think she touches it, 'till I moisten the new dry food in the evening? Then she may take a few nibbles...I don't think she's eating enough, and I may make an appointment w/the vet if she keeps this up...Last night, I even gave her about 1/2 tsp. of nutracal, because I was concerned she wasn't eating enough, and she had thrown up the yellow stuff on her evening walk...

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | It's hard to say how long, for sure....maybe not longer than an hour or so. When the food is moist, bacteria (which is already on all kibble) is enabled to multiply - so that's why you want to be a little careful.

Thanks, I figured an hr. would be about the longest time you should leave it out...I found a way to get her to eat her dry kibble, by adding a little plain organic yogurt to her food...She ate a whole 1/4 cup!! Of kibble, not yogurt lol...She's been losing weight, so I'm sooooo happy I've found something she will eat...Now I need to find out how much? I added a 1 1/2 tsps. in her supper, last night, and a 1 1/2 tsps. in her breakfast, this morning...I hope a tablespoon, a day, will work, because it sure got the food down...

I wonder why she's been losing weight...you don't think there's anything more to it, do ya? Just being picky?

I think it was a combination of things...At first, she had a very lose sore canine tooth;took her to the vet and got it out...Then she came in heat, the very next day, and I think she was already bored w/her food...I was planning on having her spayed after her second heat, but I'm thinking, now, I might have her done at 1 yr., when I have her dental done...I've got to deal w/the dental @ one year, and don't want her under twice in six months...I'm sure she's going to put her weight back on, now she's started eating...She probably wasn't eating even a 1/4 cup a day for few weeks...I was really getting worried...

Stormy was a picky eater. I would add water and heat it in the microwave for her. She would always eat it up quickly this way. After about an hour whatever was left I would throw out. I would always mix a bit less rather then more because I myself hate to waste food whether it be dog or human
