| Dew Claws?? Okay so my sister has just gotten her new yorkie puppy And she still has dew clws on 3 of her 4 legs. ( Not sure why shes missing one but who knows? ) I know that you are supposed to have them removed early on but we were thinking that when she was going to get fixed that we would just have them removed then when she was already there and everything?. Would that hurt? I honestly don't think it would bother her but I felt the need to ask anyway Thanks in advance!

| Do you know why they need to come off? My 3 babies all have dew claws. Doesn't bother them one bit. I thought they had to be removed only after a few days old. I also am curious.

| The biggest problem will be with the rear dew claws that will get caught on things. I had a boy that had rear dew claws and one almost ripped off when it got caught on an afghan blanket. I had them removed when he was neutered. Other than that I can't see there is a problem with the front ones as long as you remember they are there and don't forget to keep them trimmed. |

| Ryder has all of his, our vet said there is no medical need to have them out but to just keep them trimmed so that they dont get Roxie while wrestling.

| Thanks everyone He has two back and 1 front. She is most likley going to have them removed so the backs dont get caught onto anything.

| The only reason I heard about removing the front dew claws was when yorkies scratch there face. My yorkie always paws at her face when she first wakes up. It's a precaution that why the yorkie doesn't scratch and damage her eye. However, my youger one has both her front ones (the vet didn't see a need to get rid of them). |

| i was having the same exact problem except bella has all four. i took her to the vet and he told me its something not medically necessary. it doesnt afect the puppies in any way. people just do it due to the breed. i hope this helps because i sure felt relieved knowing thats one thing less to pay for |

| I am also planning on getting June's dew claws done soon. Her rear ones are dangling and I worry that they will get caught on something and rip off or tear. Now that would be painful for her! We are only doing the rear ones because the front ones are not hanging. Cash also has his front dew claws and we have never had a problem. I am planning to get her microchip, dew claws and teeth done in the same procedure. Then everything is done and she only has to recover once!
