|  Mia's first heat....Please help..... My little Mia just went into her first heat. She is 6 months old. How long does it usually last. She has been in heat almost 2 weeks. Is this normal? Please help I don't know if I should take her to the doctor or not.....

| Kandi just came out of her first heat and it lasted almost four weeks. The middle week was the worst. She was swollen, moody, licking herself constantly, and VERY clingy. She was attached to one of us 24/7.  You just reminded me to call and schedule her spay now. We put it off until her heat was over.

| Oh thank you.... Four weeks wow. Mia has all of the same symptoms. The swollen (vagigi) the licking (constantly) I try to keep her clean. oh good it's good to know. I have never had a female dog.

| Kandi's my first girl dog as well, so I understand. It's sort of like a mountain...the symptoms get increasingly worse until the middle and then slowly better over the four weeks. It was difficult to know the last day of her heat. She sounds like she's cleaning herself well, but there still might be a little blood. Kandi was really good about cleaning herself, so we didn't have to deal with that, thankfully. She'll be fine.

| I think Maddies first heat lasted between 4-5 weeks, I just had her spayed today I agree that it gets worse and then better and then fades off, every dog is slightly different.
