The nutritionist at Cornell will consult with you over the phone for about $140 I think. TLC uses him. I use Dr. Remillard out of Boston. She recommends the whole Balance IT line... I have a whitefish recipe here that I could send you but it is 24% protein and I'm not sure if your Yorkie would tolerate that.

You were right to be concerned about supplements. Not only do they all have to be given, they need to be given in certain amounts and it is extremely important for the calcium/phosphorus ratio to be balanced or it can lead to blood and heart issues. It is safer to feed commercial food than to feed an unbalanced homecooked diet.

Hi, yes send me all of it! I guess PM it to me would be easier and THANK YOU. I am 45 minutes from Boston so could see Ellie May's doctor or could do the phone/email consult with the Cornell doctor. Send me the whitefish diet too - I can try it.

Re: Ca2+/Phosphorus ratio -- yes, years ago I worried because I did not use bones and either used human grade bone meal (which I never liked because it increases phosphorous also) and then used egg shells which was annoying. I now use bones and that takes care of the ratio naturally. However, it is opening up vitamin E capsules and adding this or that that I find annoying. My dogs have always been healthy - and I always followed a recipe from a veterinarian. Barney is almost 9 now and Teddy 8 months. Teddy is growing like a giant and has a beautiful shiny coat.

I am a strong proponent of home cooking and every time I open up that can of garbage L/D it makes me want to cry for poor Daisy. She has Pica and is always hungry and I'm feeding her plenty because she has a little extra fat on those ribs!

I can send it to you but it does contain a fish oil capsule that is yucky to deal with.

I consult with Dr. Remillard over the phone also. We live in Michigan, so we don't go to Angell.

The fish oil capsule doesnt bother me. I would like to see if she likes the whitefish in order to try as many items as possible. The 24% protein seems high for an MVD dog. My other dogs have about 25-28% protein in their home cooked diets (20% of the diet is chicken and then the brown rice or oats adds some protein). So I am sure Daisy would not do well on 24% protein. But, I think she might like the fish - she used to love salmon and tuna when she could eat it. I'm not sure if her IBD would be activated.

Speaking of IBD, have you heard about EV coconut oil as beneficial for IBD dogs? I use coconut oil myself so have been giving her 1/4 tsp in her L/D.

Yes, it is a bit high for an MVD dog but the recipe was created for Ellie and she is basically asymptomatic. It is made iwth fish oil and sweet potato because she has IBD/SIBO.

I have heard some good things about coconut oil but have never looked into it.

My girl Chanel has MVD she is a 3# Biewer Terrier....My holistic vet for her had me contact Darwin's, it is a family based business that makes raw diets & they just came out w/one for dogs w/MVD. They have it delivered to the home in dry ice...I am trying this for her, it has fish in it as the protein. She is also on vitamin E, Omega QD & Denamarin...

YorkiGurl...do you have the contact info for your food source. My Elliott has MVD with neuro symptoms. He is on Hills KD and is doing well but he seems tired all the time. Sleeps a lot not sure if that has anything to do with it. We are new to this so any info you could share would be helpful. Is your little one on any meds?

You can Google Darwin's & go to there site, you can also call them & they will assist you w/any questions you may have....The ingredients are there to see...I also have Chanel on supplements for her MVD....I hope this helps.
