Dry skin or mites?
 
Bailey sometimes will scratch is hind leg area, I was combing his fur this morning looking for fleas again, and his skin and fur are full of white flaky specks when I comb him, like dandruff. Could this be mites? I've never seen them before. He doesn't continuously itch, it's just once in awhile it's like something is biting at him.

Its dry skin. Mites you can only see under a microscope and if it were mites it would be spreading all over not just in one place

Do you know of a product I could use to alleviate the dryness?, I feel so bad for him.

I would like to know of something to help with dryness also.....Peb's has been itchy lately too.

try this
 
Bath your dog as usual. Just before you are done, pour 1/3 of a cup of apple cider vinegar diluted with 2/3 of a cup of warm water over the dogs coat. Do not rinse. Comb through. The smell will dissipate and your dog's scaly skin and itchiness should be relieved. Plus, your dog should get a boost of a shine on the coat. Be careful of the eyes - cover the eyes when pouring it near the face/head area.

This really works! Another YTer gave me this advice when I asked this about Roxy's smell and it really works. She doesnt stink between baths anymore, she doesn't scratch as much, and her coat is so much prettier than with the Minksheen alone. I am not a fan of the smell, but it does go away pretty quickly.

As a side thought, Vinegar works awesome as a natural conditioner for human hair (I suggest rinsing though :) )

I'm going to try the ACV..I also started to add a couple of drops of olive oil to Bailey's food, I read online that was suppose to help too!

Ive heard of people putting ACV in the water as well.

if you find anything that works will you please let me know my little baby is the same way her skin looks like she has dandruff the vet said it was from fleas she been taking med's to keep fleas off her but she still looks bad she has even bitten all the hair off her back legs thank you :rolleyes:

Hi, adding some fat to your baby's food is a great idea but there are better fats that you can use. For a healthy fat that is light, try Safflower Oil. If I were you, I'd add 1/4 teaspoon of safflower oil and 1/4 teaspoon of cod liver oil to the food instead of olive oil. Your baby will be getting an excellent source of fat along with added omega three fatty acids which is excellent for their coats and skin, among other things.

You can put the ACV in the water but I would not do this at this stage of the itching.

I'm going to try the ACV at the end of the girls bath also. I hope this helps my little pebbles :) thanks for the info!

It seems to have helped some. I have been putting salmon oil on their food too. I am beginning to think pebbles has some allergy's. But their hair is so soft now that I put ACV on them.....

hey i just seen this home remedies on grannymed.com for myself becuase my skin has been dry and i used it in my bathwater and it worked for my skin such a coincidence that i got on yt and its the same ingredients for our furbabies:d
