| High protein dog food - good or bad? I have always gotten the best dog food for my pug and now my new 1 year old pound yorkie. I feel what you put in their stomachs does make a difference in their health, coat and energy. But after reading a few threads it seems that too high of protein dog foods may lead to kidney problems and may not be as good as others. I look for the number one ingredient to be protein and those that follow to be high in protein or whole foods. Can anyone tell me if I am correct in this or should I feed part of the time or mix a vegetarian dog food? My pug recently had a very high PH level and had many test run but it was never determined what caused it. We were afraid of Kidney stones but thank heavens they didn't show up. It seems that Yorkies may have this problem as well from posts I have read. Can anyone give any advice in this area? Thanks a bunch

| Ideally if they have more protein then they can digest, it should just pass through their system without issue. On the other hand, too much protein could put them at risk for kidney damage, if it doesn't get out their system or they already have issues with their kidneys.
