The shaking is a common first sign of hypoglycemia, and if she hasn't been eating enough, I'd be VERY worried about this. Meg almost died from hypo and had to spend two nights at the vet with an IV glucose drip in her neck. It was an absolute nightmare and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Feed your pup plain chicken, cottage cheese, cheese, scrambled egg, etc... anything you can get him to eat if she absolutely will not eat the kibble. Just get food in her. ALso, I've had good luck with grinding Meg's kibble in a food processor and mixing in some water and very finely shredded chicken. I think the kibble pieces are too big for her. Feeding cat food is a bad idea. I can't believe the vet recommended that. Why did you go to a Japanese vet? Were you not able to get an appt with teh base vet? I have ONLY taken my dog to teh base vet here in Korea, and I will only visit a Korean vet if it's absolutely necessary. THat's just me though.

I had a hard time finding NutriCal, too, and I ended up having to order it online (from that same company in CA!). Then the vet at Osan ended up carrying it. If you want I can pick some up for you and MPS it to you. I'm going to the vet tomorrow anyway. Just let me know. I think it's like $8 or maybe $10. Karo syrup is usually in the baking section of the commissary, next to all the sugar and whatnot. Of course maple syrup or honey will do the trick, too. I'm glad to hear she's at least eating. What's her name? How old is she? I'm going to try to find your other post. And yes, it's good to have another YTer in Asia!!!!

Check out Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble for reviews of dog foods. Bil Jac is rated at 1 star (out of 6). I feed Meg a 5 star and 6 star food mixed together (Wellness Super5 Puppy and Taste of the Wild Prairie). Congrats on your new puppy! I'm sure you'll find a food that is right for her. And you're 100% right about slowly introducing teh new food over a period of 2 weeks.

| YT 500 Club Member | Marley's Mom (what's your real name?!), here is the website for the company. They actually have a LOT of premium dog foods, certainly much more than I remembered them having. Who knows what your babe will end up liking, but at least you will have a place to order it! West Coast Pet Supply I have some extra Wellness Super5 Puppy, Taste of the Wild Prairie, and Honest Kitchen Embark if Marley wants to sample them before you start buying bags. Oh, and just a thought on the NutriCal: I had my vet put a prescription sticker on it so it's ready to fly with us. The tube is bigger than 4 oz, of course. Haha - that's funny since I am homesick for good ole' America. Granted we were stationed in Europe before Korea, so it's been a long time since we've been in the US for more than 2 weeks.

| We're stationed in Germany and I know several people who special order dog food from our base vet. I don't know how much it costs though We only have a couple of options here too and like you, the vet recommended SD but my Bella won't touch it. I wouldn't recommend using dog food on the economy. When I brought Bella home for vacation in February and I took her through customs they didn't even LOOK at her. They just asked me if she had her rabies shot and where I bought her food. Since I said the commissary they passed me right through. |
