| What to feed... My baby has been weaned to Science Diet. We do live in a rural area. I am not opposed to ordering online. Science Diet has a horrible rating. I have been reading threads and I still need some advice. As far as a puppy goes-she is 10 1/2 weeks old what would be your choice of would to transition to??? |

| Just Wondering.... Was reading your post and just curious. When I adopted my baby, he was already eating Science Diet. I read in his paper work that his previous owner was feeding him Purina One, I beleive it was. I noticed that where I live, grocery stores don't sell the Science Diet. I buy it from Petco and it is pretty expensive, or more so than the rest of the foods. I'd never heard anything bad about the Science Diet other than the price. I was just interested in what it was that you heard negative about it? I plan to switch it sooner or later..

| It was in the post "What do you feed your baby". I don't know how to link posts. Sorry. I thought SD was good too. There is also a stickie at the top of the health and diet section about kibble and ratings and SD gets an "F". It isn't an inexpensive food by any means and if the rating is that bad I would rather invest in something that is better for her rather than pay that much and feed her something that isn't that great for her. Now I am researching as to what is good. She is tiny-only a pound and a half at 9 weeks. I expect her to get about 4.5 pounds so it most likely needs to be small bites |

| Okay..I was just wondering. I will have to go and try finding that post. It sounds like it rates alot of foods. Maybe I can get some info there then and see what they are recomending. Yep, the Science Diet is fairly expensive and it comes in many different flavors and sizes. I get the small bites for adults 1-6 years old and it says something about being good for their health etc. I guess they all say that..LOL. Anyway..Thanx for that info and sorry I couldn't be of help to you. I am fairly new to the dog owner business. I'm sure someone will come along soon. They are REALLY GREAT hear at responding and with GOOD advice! =) I love this place

Good choice! It always nice to see new 'parents' doing their research and getting excited about their 'babies'. I hope your baby will enjoy her new food. I used to feed Science Diet for years. Like a lot of people, I thought it was a good food because of the price and because it was sold at my vet's office. I've learned so much from YT! I've found that it's really not much more expensive to feed a great quality food, because they don't need to eat as much to get the nutrients they need, and so I don't have to buy as much. And, hopefully heathier food = healthier pets = fewer visits to the vet. Plus, most of the foods at Petsmart & grocery stores contain lots of fillers and other unhealthy stuff that dogs can't digest - they just wind up pooping it all out. Then they're hungry again, eat agaiin, poop again.... I love them having fewer, smaller poos!!
