I have some food to giveaway If anyone wants it. Teddy has tried both and won't eat them. 1/2? a trial size (.88 lb) bag of Acana Grasslands dry food (lamb, pike, whole egg) and 1/4? (its hard to tell once the bag is opened) a trial size bag of Orijen 6 fresh fish + sea veg dry food. I hate to see them go to waste since I know many of you feed these. I will mail either or both in ziploc baggies (as they've been stored since opening) and padded envelope to you if you PM me your address. First come and all that. I hope someone can use them. The search continues to find a dry food that the boy will eat. He'll eat any wet food. And various other odd things. Hes killing me. Feel free to ask any questions.

We adopted him 4/1/09 as an 8 year old. I have no idea what he ate before we got him. I would guess something cheap judging by the shape he was in. The shelter gave us Science Diet dry which he will eat occasionally if mixed with some wet but I would like to feed him something better. Hes very itchy and sneezy. The Acana is a new brand just coming out from Orijen according to the pet store. They won't take back either bag since they are trial size. I just bought a full size of Natural Balance Duck & Potato dry since he likes the wet version. So far hes picking it out and only eating the Science Diet parts. And only about half the serving of it. I try to feed him 3/8 cup dry +1/8 cup wet at 7am and 7pm. When he will eat. He will eat carrots, lettuce, etc. Maybe I need to start home cooking.

| Yorkies are known to be picky! I would just leave food out all day for him and he will eat when he his hungry. I've learned that with Jackson. I tried so many foods with him and now he voluntarily goes over to the bowl and just starts eating dry food which he never used to do. He'll eat when he's hungry. He doesn't eat too much and knows when he's full and when to stop. I occasionally will mix in some wet food with the dry for breakfast for him. He LOVES Wellness Super5Mix, the chicken flavor. As well as Merrick's Before Grain food. I buy both and mix them together.

Thanks. He is a sweetie. I tried a quicker switch off the Science Diet to the other foods and when he got really hungry he would eat them but then throw them back up. He was lethargic and pitiful all day. With the Natural Balance I am trying the 10 day switch. I started yesterday. If he doesn't eat the food when I put it out at 7am I take it up after half an hour and put it back around 8:30. He picks at it a little then too then nothing. For dinner he acts like he is starved. Goes to the pantry where I keep his food and stands and looks at me like feed me already. Then I feed him and again he eats only the Science Diet parts. I'm going to continue on the 10 day switch plan and hope he will get used to the Natural Balance as it gets to be more and more of what he has to eat. At least after 10 days if he still will only eat the stupid Science Diet I can take the Natural Balance back since it was the full size bag. I'd really like to get him to eat something that won't make him itch tho.

I would definately be concerned if Teddy is going long periods of time with an adequate number if calories to sustain him. Especially if he is vomiting up the new food and is larthagic. Hypoglocemia can be a threat to adult dogs as well as to pups. You might try "jazzing up the Natural Balance with a bit of good ole fashioned homemade chicken and rice - or just a bit of boiled chicken that you whizz through the food processor. Start with enough to lightly coat the dry food and gradulally reduce the amount until he is eating just the Natural Balance. It may take some time, but it will be well worth the effort.

Hes never gone more than a day without eating. And I never let him throw up new food for more than one feeding. I always just fed him the Science Diet again until his stomach settled down. I jazz up all his dry food with Natural Balance wet food. He likes all those flavors and will lick the wet off and leave the dry so hes never been starving I don't think. I just thought someone might want the leftovers of the bags of the foods he wouldn't eat.

Awwww I it sounds like you are a good mommy. I am sure that someone will take you up on your free food offer - if not maybe you could donate to a local shelter. | |

You can also try some low sodium low fat chicken broth on the kibble. Make it almost like a gravy. Have you thought about going grain free to see if the itching stops? Maybe Taste of the Wild or Evo?

I'm trying to get him grain free in the hopes that the itching will stop. Its baby steps tho since cutting it out all at once just made him puke. Too protein dense? His treats are already all grain free and he eats them fine. I asked our 2 closest shelters about taking the food but they won't since the bags have been opened. They worry about contamination they said. Please keep the suggestions coming. It helps to talk it all out. He did eat all his dinner (75% old/25% new) tonight fine. We played and wore him out first. Guess that made him too hungry to be picky. I left some out for him all day too and he ate some then so he will eat it. And so far he hasn't thrown any of it up. Its getting better with the Natural Balance. I hope. Again, if anyone wants the stuff he won't eat I'm happy to send it instead of throwing it away. Seems like such a waste.

besides food, our vet loves getting old towels, newspapers, meds that are no longer used(like whem Moms dog passed away). A lot of times dogs will get hit or they will be found wondering around, and people take them in to the vet, the extras always helps out
