revolution
 
Has anybody ever used a topical anti parasite called revolution? The doctor gave me this for my gizmos earmites just curious how long it takes to work?

yes thats the only thing I use! Its the best. It should take maybe 2-3 days Ithink

I use it on my 3. I woudl guess 2-3 days too.

I use Frontline Plus on my 3 dogs and 5 cats and just love it. You can bath them with it on and it still works for 1 month...:D

It may work very well for mites (no experience with it) but as far as heartworm protection, in my opinion it is one of the worst.

I am very curious as to why you do not like revolution for heart worms as well i have used it for many years with good results. did you have one get heart worms while using it?

I have had great success with Revolution as well - I have used it for years.

I am actually in the process of switching my heartworm and flea ect. medication. I have been comparing a few including Revolution. My only issue with it is it says that it controls fleas, ticks... but does not kill???

I compared Revolution, Advantage plus and Sentinel( no tick prev.) And if i were to use a combo (still debating on a combo or on seperate flea and heartworm)
I do really like how the Revolution is broken down be weight (0-5lb...5-10lb)

If i end up not using a "combo" I think I was going to go with K9 Advantix and Interceptor.

No but I've never used it.
There are several reports that dogs are getting heartworms while on Revolution and because it hasn't been around for long, it would make sense that reports are just starting to come out. It is also apparently responsible for more deaths yearly than Heartgard and Interceptor combined. That would make sense if more people used Revolution but I highly doubt it. Heartgard seems much more popular.

If you do a search on YT, there are a couple reports of people hearing that it isn't as effective as other as well. One of the people who posted is MyFairLacy (vet student).
Last time I search this I found a bit more info, so I wonder if the sites got taken down or maybe I'm just missing them.

Of course no med is 100% though and there is risk of heartworms while using any of them...

Wow, that is great info....I don't know if we need yet another sticky, however, if we ever *do* get going on the Yorkie Talk Library -- we do need to include info on the various heartworm/flea/etc medications - there are SO many now, and it's confusing.

Btw, I use generic ivermectin (aka, Heartguard). We luckily don't have much of a flea problem here...and I don't know how I feel about treating for the other worms - as in Heartguard Plus. It's so hard to find real-time prevalence and incidence on these issues.

I only treat for worms because Interceptor protects against them (at the tune of adding 4/5 more drug than they need to per dose to claim that). I was using Heartgard (no Plus) for awhile with no intestinal parasite protection at all. Ellie's risk of exposure is so low and we do fecals, so it just isn't a huge concern to me.

The Revolution thing is hard because all meds can fail. I just don't like all of the reports I've seen about this.

What is the diff. btwn. Hguard+ and Interceptor if they both prevent heartw., hookw., and roundw. - do you know? Is it an ingredient?

I "think" Interceptor protects against whipworms in addition to the other ones.
Heartgard may work better for the other intestinal parasites though, not sure.

Heartgard is Ivermectin.
Heartgard Plus is Ivermectin and Pyrantel.
Interceptor is Milbemycin Oxime.
Sentinel is Milbemycin Oxime and Lufeneron.
Revolution is Selamectin.

You're right - I was just checking and Inter. does protect agains whipworm as well. :thumbup:
