But then again, from my understanding 1/5 of the milbemycin oxime in Interceptor would control heartworms. They add the other 4/5 for intestinal worms. I think there is a safe heart dose available (not in the US) for just heartworms. So those who want to protect against heartworms alone are overdosing by 4/5.:(

Hopefully those folks know to use Ivermectin (Heartguard)...then again, the weight breakdown for H.guard is not something I like (less specific toward small dogs). So then you'd be overdosing there, just in a different way, you know? That has always bugged me.

And I was also reading that while some heartworm meds lower the seizure threshold (:(), Interceptor is the one w/ the least amount of chance of doing that -- can't tell whether this is anecdotal or not, yet. Do you know?

And then (I need to stop reading), if you look at the Australian version of Interceptor - which is Interceptor Spectrum - that version also treats for tapeworm...so now I wonder why we don't treat for that here as well. Confusing.

I do use Interceptor. I like it for Yorkies. I just hate the overdose.
Exactly. You are doing the same thing with Heartgard in a different way.

I think Ladymom uses Interceptor because it is the best for seizures.

Maybe tapeworm is very prevalent there? The vets seem to give Panacur for tapeworms if needed around here. lol, I don't pay attention to drugs from other countries very much. I have all I can do to keep up with drugs from the US and they are the only ones I use unless there is no US version.

So i think i made my mind up!!! I am not going to wait until my little one is 3lbs (he is 5months) to take Advantage plus that our vet gave us. I am going to switch both of my little dudes to Interceptor and POSSIBLY K9 Advantix (instead of Frontline, that we currently use)
Good choices?!!!???:confused:

The only issue I am struggling with is the K9 Advantix, my vet said they do not recommend it because it uses some old ing. that isnt used anymore??? Does anyone use this or have heard about that?

This stuff is so confusing!!!

Advantix adds permethrin and I agree with your vet. There are better choices. If you only need flea protection and not tick protection, you could use just plain Advantage. Or there is always Frontline Plus.

Ok. Thank you. Sometimes it just takes someone else to say no!! Frontline plus and Advantage are the others I was comparing so I will go with those then. Thank you!!!

Izzy has been on Revolution from the day we got her and we have had no problems. She is 2-1/2 and 3# so we get the puppy under 5#. Talk to your vet about the heartworm outbreak in your area as it's different for everybody. Example: rabies is more rampant in our area then say some other state - same for heartworm.

They are posts that are "stuck" at the top of the page. Like, if you open the Health/Diet Forum - I just did a recent one on Vaccines....and since people ask about vaccines so often - we made it a "sticky", so it doesn't ever move down the page. :)
