revolution Has anybody ever used a topical anti parasite called revolution? The doctor gave me this for my gizmos earmites just curious how long it takes to work? |
yes thats the only thing I use! Its the best. It should take maybe 2-3 days Ithink |
I use it on my 3. I woudl guess 2-3 days too. |
I use it on all 5 of mine! We love it! :) |
I use Frontline Plus on my 3 dogs and 5 cats and just love it. You can bath them with it on and it still works for 1 month...:D |
It may work very well for mites (no experience with it) but as far as heartworm protection, in my opinion it is one of the worst. |

I have had great success with Revolution as well - I have used it for years. |
I am actually in the process of switching my heartworm and flea ect. medication. I have been comparing a few including Revolution. My only issue with it is it says that it controls fleas, ticks... but does not kill??? I compared Revolution, Advantage plus and Sentinel( no tick prev.) And if i were to use a combo (still debating on a combo or on seperate flea and heartworm) I do really like how the Revolution is broken down be weight (0-5lb...5-10lb) If i end up not using a "combo" I think I was going to go with K9 Advantix and Interceptor. |

There are several reports that dogs are getting heartworms while on Revolution and because it hasn't been around for long, it would make sense that reports are just starting to come out. It is also apparently responsible for more deaths yearly than Heartgard and Interceptor combined. That would make sense if more people used Revolution but I highly doubt it. Heartgard seems much more popular. This is what Google pulls up: Problems with Revolution for dogs? - Yahoo! Answers (look at first two posts) Revolution for Dogs review (obviously I don't agree with using second best meds in areas with not many heartwork cases becasue that just doesn't make sense to me but I like this write up) Sentinel & Interceptor Are The Safest Heartworm Preventatives | KeoB.com If you do a search on YT, there are a couple reports of people hearing that it isn't as effective as other as well. One of the people who posted is MyFairLacy (vet student). Last time I search this I found a bit more info, so I wonder if the sites got taken down or maybe I'm just missing them. Of course no med is 100% though and there is risk of heartworms while using any of them... |

Btw, I use generic ivermectin (aka, Heartguard). We luckily don't have much of a flea problem here...and I don't know how I feel about treating for the other worms - as in Heartguard Plus. It's so hard to find real-time prevalence and incidence on these issues. |

The Revolution thing is hard because all meds can fail. I just don't like all of the reports I've seen about this. |

Heartgard may work better for the other intestinal parasites though, not sure. Heartgard is Ivermectin. Heartgard Plus is Ivermectin and Pyrantel. Interceptor is Milbemycin Oxime. Sentinel is Milbemycin Oxime and Lufeneron. Revolution is Selamectin. Advantage Multi is Moxidectin and Imidacloprid. |

You're right - I was just checking and Inter. does protect agains whipworm as well. |

if you go on 1800petmeds.com you can compare all the medications! |

And I was also reading that while some heartworm meds lower the seizure threshold (:(), Interceptor is the one w/ the least amount of chance of doing that -- can't tell whether this is anecdotal or not, yet. Do you know? And then (I need to stop reading), if you look at the Australian version of Interceptor - which is Interceptor Spectrum - that version also treats for tapeworm...so now I wonder why we don't treat for that here as well. Confusing. |

Exactly. You are doing the same thing with Heartgard in a different way. I think Ladymom uses Interceptor because it is the best for seizures. Maybe tapeworm is very prevalent there? The vets seem to give Panacur for tapeworms if needed around here. lol, I don't pay attention to drugs from other countries very much. I have all I can do to keep up with drugs from the US and they are the only ones I use unless there is no US version. |
So i think i made my mind up!!! I am not going to wait until my little one is 3lbs (he is 5months) to take Advantage plus that our vet gave us. I am going to switch both of my little dudes to Interceptor and POSSIBLY K9 Advantix (instead of Frontline, that we currently use) Good choices?!!!??? I was using heartgard plus but agree, i wont anymore because of the huge weight difference (1-25lbs) wow! The only issue I am struggling with is the K9 Advantix, my vet said they do not recommend it because it uses some old ing. that isnt used anymore??? Does anyone use this or have heard about that? This stuff is so confusing!!! |

Izzy has been on Revolution from the day we got her and we have had no problems. She is 2-1/2 and 3# so we get the puppy under 5#. Talk to your vet about the heartworm outbreak in your area as it's different for everybody. Example: rabies is more rampant in our area then say some other state - same for heartworm. |

What are these "stickys"?! I have seen them but dont know what the difference is.:p |

They are posts that are "stuck" at the top of the page. Like, if you open the Health/Diet Forum - I just did a recent one on Vaccines....and since people ask about vaccines so often - we made it a "sticky", so it doesn't ever move down the page. :)[/QUOTE] OK. I though so, thanks! |
