Yes, it is expensive! Choosing good dog food for your fur baby is hard sometimes ... not sure which to go with yet. Thanks for the tips!

| I used to feed RC to both of mine until I saw the RC review on dogfoodreview.com. I was so shocked to see that it is rated only 2 out of 6 while I was paying my %&$ off for it. If I had lived in the US, I would have chosen a food that is on the 6 star dog food list. Being unable to find a better food than RC in South Africa, I feed them homemade now. No more allergies, no more picky eaters and no more stinky breath!! Never again will I feed RC since it is considering to be a terrible food, but that's just my opinion.

| I wouldn't recommend it. Dry food is better all around for their teeth (some people may argue this... but every older dog I've ever seen that only ate wet food has awful teeth) The kibble can sort of clean their teeth by removing plaque and tarter, plus it makes them exercise and use their jaw. It's natural for a dog to chew. It's cheaper in the long run and easier because you can buy in bulk and not go bad. Wet food goes bad quicker. I do occasionally (about 2-3 times a week) give Jackson wet food mixed in with his dry food for breakfast as sort of a treat.

| All my dogs/puppies are on RC too. I try to switch food a few times but always come back to RC. |

Here's the review from DogFoodAnalysis.com The first ingredient in the food is a named meat product, as is the second. Since the first is chicken inclusive of its water content (about 80%) and once that is removed it is likely that this ingredient would be more accurately placed somewhat further down the ingredient list (ingredients are listed in order of weight). Note that this is an example of the practice of “splitting” (see note on main page), but in this case serves to increase our level of confidence in the amount of meat product in the food. Since this is a food aimed at large breed doga, and the presence of meat *with bone* within the top four ingredients is a factor that decreases the risk of bloat, it would be preferable that the first ingredient were not "deboned" chicken. Nonetheless, this requirement is probably covered by the second ingredient. The next three ingredients are grains. All are good quality, but the product starts to appear rather grain heavy. Potato is a further carbohydrate source, tomato pomace, however, is primarily filler. Black malted molasses is a source of sugar we prefer not to see in dog food, and is likely to contribute to yeast infections. We appreciate the use of whole vegetables in the food. There is a good range of probiotics also. Glucosamine and Chondroitin are present, but not in any significant doses. Jackson was a very picky eater but he LOVED Merrick's Before Grain food and now he gets Wellness Super5Mix chicken flavor as well. I mix the two together. BG is a grain-free food and it's a bit higher in protein than most but I don't think it's TOO high (it's 32%) where the Wellness is only 22%. After reading some things on here about high protein, it kind of freaked me out lol so that's why I started buying Wellness and mixing the two. It makes me feel better that he's getting two good foods, one semi-high in protein while one is normal. He loves them both. They are both 5 stars and we've never had any issues with the foods.

| If you would like to be able to buy your food at a Petco or Petsmart, I would recommend only Natural Balance, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Halo, or Solid Gold. There's not a whole lot of good foods available in Petsmart... Petco seems to sell more.
