| Ruby's eating habits Ruby is driving me crazy with her poor eating habits. The only way I can get her to eat is by sitting on the floor with her feeding her by hand and even that is a struggle. I do leave dry food in her bowl all day while I am at work but I am not convinced she eats it. I think Max, my other dog, eats it. She eats Royal Canin Mini Puppy 33 and has since she has been with us. She also eats Merrick Puppy Plate canned food. Up until this week she gobbled that up in no time but now I struggle to get her to eat that. I have tried the suggestion to give her kibble as her treat for going potty on the pee pad but she is too smart and knows that that is not the chicken jerky she usually gets. She is a happy and playful puppy but I still worry she is not getting the nutrition she needs. I forgot to mention she also eats pieces of apple when I am home for lunch. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

| No suggestions but wanted to let you know you're not a lone! I have the same problem with Lola. Some days she eats like there is no tomorrow and other days she doesn't touch the food. Even when I mix wet food into the kibble she still refuses to eat. Maybe I should switch between two different types of kibble?

| Same here.... I have to literally chase her around the house with kibble LOL!!! then she'll take it and walk away then spit it out (little stinker!!!!) and maybe if im lucky, she'll eat like 7 pieces of kibble!!!!! but the funny thing is she will never refuse a treat!!!!!! ive even tried not giving her anything for a whole day so she'll be really hungry but no luck!!! (I think shes holding out for the treats) Ive tried about 5 different kinds of kibble, raw, and canned and she'll eat it for a day or so and stop!!! ughhhhh!!!!! Today we had a breakthrough tho. I noticed if i add water to the kibble, and let it get really soft, she'll eat it. But who knows if she'll eat it tomorrow again..... I know instinctually a dog will never starve themselves, so im not too worried. I also heard somewhere that you when you put down the food and they dont eat it within 30 min, you should put it away. Then 30 min later put it back down. Do this over and over and they will start to realize that this all they're getting and they should start to eat. I havent tried it but I doubt it will work with my Maddie. Sorry I dont have an answer for you but dont worry, you're not alone... |

| Have you tried mixing the kibble with some canned food? Makes it enticing to them... if not wet food, then maybe some chicken?

| How long have you let her go without eating? My Oliver did this same thing, the vet told me to just ignore him. He went three days without eating, but now he'll eat regardless of me being around. For some reason I put the food on a plate and he liked that better, now he is back to a bowl. I think they probably do this because they prefer you feeding them, but they're not gonna let themselves starve to death, I would suggest going a few days. What happens if there is a time when you can't be around?

Actually it's 15 minutes down and you don't feed them until the next scheduled meal. Also if your dog is not eating well, skip all treats and human foods. You have to teach them that this is all they get and they have to just get used to it. If you don't babied them, they'll get with the program pretty fast. | |

| Thanks for all the ideas. I saw in another thread the idea of putting a little parmesan cheese on the kibble. I tried that today and it worked. She ate out of her bowl and ate everything. I also boiled a chicken breast and she had some for dinner tonight. She loved it! I hope this continues. I am so glad I found YT!!!! |
