My Yorkie puppy being difficult w/ her food Hi! My six month old Yorkie had been eating Royal Canine puppy formula, however I switched to another b/c she appeared to stop eating it like she had been. Okay, so the new food, Iams for toy breeds, was a hit for about three-four days. Since yesterday, she has refused to eat what is in her bowl, even with coaxing of PuppyCal, and this morning, her tummy was making noises and still could not get her to eat any of her food. She does not seem sick, in fact, wants to play instead of eat. Have any of you run into this similar situation with your dogs? If so, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks! :) |

Summary, Iams upset two of my four cats bad. Take it back. Give her some bland food to settle her tummy. Boiled chicken breast or/and another would be white rice with the broth on it. Ask the pet food store for some samples and see if they have one easy on the tummy before buying a big bag. Some times, being finicky eaters, they will turn their nose up to foods. I will put it down and eventually he will get hungry enough to eat it. If she doesn't eat it by day 2 or 3, try another sample. Keep the Royal Canine for when she get finicky again. Meal??? Trying to understand what meal is and if it is good or not. I read where chicken meal was the first ingredient and didn't have a good feeling about that. I am assuming meal means dry crushed? Any feedback? |
Meal is dehydrated form of the meat, it is good. There's more sites that explain meals in dog food, but this is what I feed & if you scroll down, it explains further. I am going to try the sojo dehydrated food mixes. You just add meat. I will probably get the grain free one, and add some rice also. It sounds good enough for me to eat! |

I got Winnie and she was on Bil-Jac and now I have her on NutriSource. I wish I had this list before I bought NutriSource and got her on that. Is it safe to switch to a 3rd kind in a few months? B rating isn't horrible but I'd much rather have an A :) |
On the grading chart, it says Dick Van Patten's Duck and Potato / Score 106 A+ It is Potato and Duck on the bag and the first ingredient is Potato. The girl at the store said in the way of, 'When the kibble is baked, duck drops down to second place even though Duck is the first ingredient'. Anyone know anything about this??? |
This grading chart is just a guide. Dog Food Analysis Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble explains the process you mentioned a little further, here's an example of Acana Grasslands: The first ingredient in this food is a named meat product, in meal form. There is a second meat ingredient third on the ingredient list, and fresh fish products further down the ingredient list. These are, however, inclusive of water content. Once this is removed, as it must be to create a dry food product, the ingredients will weigh around 20% of their wet weight, and may be more accurately placed further down the ingredient list than indicated. |
