| I Need Advice on Spaying or Not... Addie is 7 months and weighs 4 lbs. She has not gone into heat yet and I'm not sure if I want to Spay her or not. We would like to breed her eventually, but only if she gets bigger. The vet seems to think she won't gain any more than 1/2 lb. Any advice?? _____________________ Mom to ADDIE |

| Welcome to YT There are pros and cons to spaying and pros and cons to breeding. If she were mine, I'd have her spayed as soon as possible. This should only be done if after research you think it is the right thing to do though.

| This is a decsion that only YOU can make. You will get all kinds of answers.... You can research the PROS and CONS to Spaying and Breeding...online...before you make a decision...its never too late to spay.. Personally...I wouldn't wanna take a chance on my babies life...Unless you know what your doing...you risk her life by breeding her...And to me that's too high of a price...plus her body will never be the same .. Good luck to you and to her....

| Well, my guess is she's done growing. My last pup was 5 1/2 mos when I got her, she weighed 1 1/2 lbs. She gained another 1/2 lb or so, she fluctuates like all other women(lol) and stays between 2 and 2 1/2 lbs. She hasn't grown any since she was around 6 or 6 1/2 mos and is now 10 mos. If you're not going to breed her, then it's best to have her spayed before she goes in to heat. I don't think she will get to 4 1/2 lbs. myself, she may, I just highly doubt it. It's not the "don't breed under 5 lbs" so much to me, you have to look at their structure also. Sometimes a 4 1/2 lb is able to free whelp. You need to follow your heart and you decide what you want to do. No on else here can make that decision for you. |

| I would spay also and as suggested I would only breed after researching both the Pro's and Con's. I should note I am not a breeder and have my Yorkie as a pet only. The owners who's post I have read and breed, are very knowledgable and it is obvious that they have a passion for breeding. Also from reading their post it is obvious that breeding is not easy and however beneficial the results are they put a lot of time, money and emotion into the process. Kudos to the breeders who do it, love it and provide us with our beautiful little babies.

| There are so many health benefits to spaying her, that's what I would recommend. Did you know that you can eliminate her risk of ever getting mammary cancer by spaying her before her first heat? If you wait until after her first heat, the risk rises to 8%. After her second heat, the risk jumps to 25%. |
