You'll get alot of different advice on the type of dog food you are feeding him....However I would NEVER feed Rawhide chews to your baby!! It is very dangerous....they make safer chews ....such as Bully sticks....that are very similiar to rawhide...but not dangerous.. I wouldn't be surprised that the rawhide is giving him diarrhea... You can do research on the best types of kibble to feed your little one...I personally only feed premium food to my girls...Iams isn't premium...do you have a Pet Store in town...they usually carry higher quality food...I wouldn't buy any dog food from walmart..or grocery stores they are all low quality foods.... And the type of food you feed could definately be why he is going potty so much...the better quality foods...the less poos... Please don't keep feeding him rawhide....just because he likes it doesn't mean it's safe! You can research what types of chews are safe for yorkies...Nylabones are safe...etc... Good luck!!! |

I can tell you that pups go potty a lot, but don't know if your guy's going too much. I can tell you that I feed Evo or Innova. I purchase these foods at Care A Lot pet supply. They have a web site if you do a net search for them. Potties are less frequent and solid. This is because of the quality of the food it is easily digestible. Welcome to YT!!! We love pictures if you have any to post :p |
I feed my babies Taste of the Wild. We buy it at Tractor Supply. I wouldn't give rawhide, mine just have toys for chewing or bully sticks. Good luck with your furbaby:)everything will be fine:) |
Foods with a lot of fillers tend to make these little ones poop more. The one thing that is really bad for them is TABLE SCRAPS. Please don't feed him table scraps now or even in the future. There are a lot of people on here who's yorkies have pancreatitis, which can be deadly. If you change his food, you need to do it slowly over 7-10 days. starting with a little of the new food in with the old, and then add just a little more every day until he's fully changed over to the new |

My two eat Azmira Holistic dog food. They love raw and cooked carrots, watermelon, strawberries and bully sticks. |
Jackson loves Merrick brand's Before Grain line of food. It's about $15, I believe, for a 6lb bag. It lasts a while for him though. They have three flavors and he loves the Chicken and Buffalo flavors the best. |
I feed Molly Wellness for Puppies kibbles and occasionally feed her a few tbsp of canned food as a treat. She also gets yorkie yummies and Wellness puppy treats at times too. She also loves chewing on her bull sticks.:) |
I feed mine royal canin, you can get it from your vet. It's puppy formula for skin and digestion. How much of the food are you feeding him. Do you have scheduled times or do you free feed. I would talk to your vet to see what he recommends. You can also call the 800# on the dog food bag and they can calculate how much our baby needs. The supermarket dog food is full of fillers and they can be harsh on your babies stomach. |

I feed Noelle Solid Gold for puppies, she loves it and doesn't seem to have to potty too much. I don't feed her table food but the vet said when she gets a little older she can have some baby carrots which are great for her teeth. She loves Bully Sticks. The Wellness treats and the Yorkie Yummies for a reward. |
I also need help with food. I was also feeding IAMS. I thought that was good food. I have just purchased Nutro Natural Choice (chicken, rice and oatmeal) I have not started to use it yet. Before I open , does anyone know if this is a good food. My baby is 1 year now. |
Go for Quality! Use this site and pick a 5 or 6 star food for your little one. They are worth it! Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost I have to order mine too, I use Pet Food Supplies Dog Cat Bird ... PetFoodDirect.com |

I believe it's rated 1 or 2 on Dogfoodanalysis.com |

I looked it up...and it's only rated at 2 stars out of 6.....So you might wanna go to a local Pet food store or Feed store...they usually carry premium foods....And many will give you free samples to try out...and see if you yorkie likes it or not! good luck... |

i just want to chime in with the no raw hide thing. DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU THEY ARE SAFE my friend brought over a little stick of rawhide months ago and brow beat me until i gave in and gave it to the dog. 2 days later she was choking on it (i pulled it out). If someone gives you a gift of rawhide, say thanks and throw it out =) |
Iams is not a good quality food by products, corn, fillers besides they have done some nasty testing on animals, merrick, wellness, innova, solid gold which is what I feed, natural balance are some good ones |
I agree it is not safe |
Please Google "consumer affairs nutro". From all the reports, it is pretty safe to say this food should be avoided. |
I have used the Canidae wet dog food (rated 5) or the Wellness(rated 6) for Mandie. She then gets the Ultra Puppy dry dog food(rated 4)... The ultra is really tiny so thats why i chose it. She also likes the samples of the Evanger's Pheasant and brown rice that we get when I purchase the wet food from the local tractor supply store. When i first got Mandie the guy was feeding her Mighty Dog which made her SICK!!!! Idiot!! lol |
Thank you so much for the info. I will def. not open the Nutro and try to return it today. I don't want to give her anything bad. I have no problem spending alittle extra on her, I just don't know what to give. She is only 5 lbs. so I want sort of small kibble. No longer a puppy though. |

You can also e-mail Wellness and they will send you a bunch of sample bags! I did that and they sent me a bunch. Jackson loves Merrick's Before Grain and while the kibble isn't huge, it's not tiny like the Wellness small breed. Jackson seems to prefer larger kibble though. He seems to just swallow the tiny ones! lol |

We are experimenting with Wellness puppy kibble, but largely I prepare his food. Favorite veggies include cooked carrots, green beans, and brussels sprouts. Favorite meats include lamb, beef, and chicken (which has been cooked whole and then removed from the bone - believe it or not he won't eat a boneless chicken breast, the consistency is too dry, I've tried several times). He loves no-fat, plain greek yogurt, strawberries and oranges. With regard to rawhides and chews - I do not give him any of these, including Nylabones. I found that they caused him to "choke or gag" - it sounded like reverse sneezing. I can only imagine the little parts were getting stuck. The only chews he gets are dried sweet potato chews and yogurt drops - both of which he loves, and are least somewhat nutritious. The other "human treat" I will give is Cherrios - he loves those things. Good luck - I would definitely suggest experimenting with his food to get rid of the tummy-aches! |
We feed Chicken Soup for the Puppy/Dog Lover's Soul. We have good results (and fewer tummy troubles) with it. I also feel Merrick canned. So far so good with both of these. Furbutts gobble them up, coats are good, weight is good, poop is good. |
Last night I threw away all rawhide!!! I didn't know it was dangerous until a friend called me yesterday and told me her 6 month old boxer is dying because of it!!! Some type of bacterial infection has caused major problems and now the puppy might die. Her vet told her, in his opinion that the only thing he believes in is; Nylabones, Flossies & Pig Snouts. He also said to wash all Nylabones daily with soap and water. To NEVER leave flossies and pig snouts out all day and when your pup is done with them to put them in a ziploc bag and put them in the frig. He said that the saliva on the toys, chews, etc grow bacteria VERY quickly and especially on the flossies, pig snouts, raw hide, bones...etc. and will and can cause serious illness especially in puppies....that along with the fact that if they swallow a piece - it blows up like a sponge once in their system and is more hard to come through the other end. He said in human terms.... it was like eating a piece of chicken or some potato salad and leaving it out all day on the counter and then going back and eating it again later. Bacteria grows quickly and then you get sick. PS - Just switched to Wellness |
