| Water question Hey all! I am a brand new Yorkie owner, Rudy came home today! I have never owned a dog and have done a ton of research on this site as well as a lot of others. As night is approaching, I am curious if you take away their water or let them drink all night. I am going to crate him next to my bed in the night and realize I will have to get up with him but was curious what others do. I certainly do not what him to dehydrate but am wondering if he continues to drink until we go to bed will this cause him to have to go? Thank you so much for any advice. I have been adicted to this sight for the last month! |

| Some will say to take up the water around 7:00 or 8:00 to minimize the need to potty through out the night. But we never had a problem. I was prepared to spend a month in the guest room with Bailey after we brought her home (so as not to disturb the hubby) for fear of constant whining and pottying. However, after the first two nights - Bailey started holding it while in the crate and the crying was minimal. I was allowed back in the master bedroom in less than a week! LOL I guess what I'm trying to say - I would leave the water down at all times unless you have potty issues through the night.... Good luck, welcome to YT and CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW BABY!!

| Thank you for your input. I have heard both ways, leaving down and taking it up. Like you I am prepared for nights of whining and going out. Hope mine is as smooth as yours seems to have been. |

| I say leave the water down...they really don't drink that much to make a difference...but it's there when and if he needs it. Welcome to YT, you and Rudy...hope you like it here and stay awhile...I love the name you chose...Rudy!!!

| I would say leave it and if he has a problem then try taking water away after 8PM. My baby had a problem and urinated in his crate. I stopped water after 8 and he was fine. Now he sleeps with us so he doesn't get water anyway! LOL! |

| Hi...welcome Rudy...Hope we can always be helpful...I take Peanut's water away around 7:00 p.m. and she can hold it until 7:00 am the next day. We usually put her out for the last time around 8:30 pm and then go to bed. She never had accidents in her play pen (and there was alot of extra room). Guess she likes where she sleeps. Thank god for that. Anyway...Welcome and always feel free to ask questions. Everyone on Yorkie Talk is wonderful. I've been using YT for 8 months now and I don't know what I would do without everyone's kind help and true concern for the well being of my yorkie Peanut. Always remember...no questions are silly or stupid. Someone will help you out. Welcome again...Sheryl, Bartlett, IL (Peanut Ann Mommie) |
