| Have you ever bred before? If not, may I ask why you decided too, and if you've prepared for this at all? I'm asking because I won't be breeding for over a year yet, and there is a lot of things I have to read up on and learn before I ever do breed. My bitch will be taken in to the vet and be checked for all things necessary to make sure she's healthy enough to breed before she even steps in a room with a stud |

To the OP read, read, read all you can and possibly look for a mentor. You can find a lot of good information here on YT in the breeders section. And,

I've been googling and a lot of stuff that comes up for yorkie pregnancy is from this same forum. One of the threads led me to a very helpful website. My baby is a very health energetic 4 years old. She just recently went to the vet in March and he told me she a real good dog to breed. She's updated on all her shots. I even contacted her insurance to confirm what is covered on their end. Her due date is around May 20. And about the father, well his name is Lucky and he just came for a visit, I guess Lucky was "Lucky" that night . I'm just exicted on how the puppies will look Tyesha has very light hair (tan and light gray) but Lucky has a little black in him. I just want to make sure, I'm caring her the right way. Like giving her puppy food and vitmins etc. Last edited by tyeshasMaMi; 04-08-2009 at 07:59 AM.

Links to the best Breeding & Whelping sites and articles on the net! What is your female eating now? The most important thing is to have her on a quality dog food. I prefer something like Canidae, Chicken Soup, Solid Gold or Natural Balance. There are many other good foods. Diet is of the utmost importance to ensure a healthy litter. A diet that in not balanced can cause birth defects or cause the puppies to be absorbed. I do not believe in supplementing during pregnancy. You have to be careful during her pregnancy not to expose her to chemicals like flea treatments or medications. After the 4th week of pregnancy it is best to not let her jump too much. Mine will jump on and off the furniture, that is okay as long as they are not jumping too high, but don't put her in a situation where she is continuously jumping up and down like some do if they are confined in a x-pen or behind a gate. Toward the end of her pregnancy try to not do anything to stress her out. There is so much information in this site. If you have specific questions about breeding and whelping it would be best for you to post in the 'Breeders Section'. We have many knowledgeable breeders on here that will be glad to help you out. How big is your female and the sire? Best of luck to you.

| Is this Tyesha's first pregnancy? If so, she is a bit old to start with breeding. The reason for this is that, with each heat cycle where she is not bred, her uterus will thicken up a bit and become less elastic. Also, the pelvic bones tend to set and may not spread as well as they should. For these reasons, many breeders use 3 years as a cut-off point for a girl having her first litter. It's good that you're doing your research but please be aware that her age may make her more prone to complications. Best of luck with Tyesha.
