Update 4 Attachment(s) First of all, I have to say THANK YOU again. Yesterday was such a weird day, I was almost feeling anti-social and had a real hard time until I had Ranger back with me. I am sure it's normal. But I have to say logging on and checking this thread honestly gave me what I needed. Thank you so much for the support!! On to Ranger.... well we were called at 3pm that he was done and coming out of anesthesia nicely. No, that's not exactly how it went. We had stopped into an equine hospital so hubby could bs with the vet up there, and I had left my phone in the truck  I got a weird feeling at 2:58 and realized I didn't have it! I ran to the truck and had JUST missed there call. They called both hubby's and my phones, but didn't leave a message  So I immediately called back and the second I identified myself, they said "hold please." Well talk about FREAKING OUT!!!!!!! I was on hold for minutes, imagining the worst. It was AWFUL!! Finally the surgery tech got on an apologized, and said I could come get him in and hour, and that he was doing great. Whew. :animal-pa So we got there right at 4PM, and we went into the exam room for our discharge. They put our xrays on the big screen, and from the first second I saw them, I knew in my heart he was much worse than he ever showed. The surgeon said it was really good we got him fixed when we did, because he *really* needed to. And great news- NO ARTHRITIS!!! :D I have the xrays on disc and I will be adding them to this thread just a bit later. The second they walked in the door with Ranger his eyes lit up and he tried to get to us. I don't remember anything after that, except for holding my little boy. It's such a good strategy to go over discharge first  He was really alert and wanted outta there! We got all situated in the truck and started our drive home. He was awake most of the way, but a little out of it. He had been given an epidural so he couldn't feel his back legs. He also has a fentanyl patch (cut to size) and is on Clavamox with Torb (as a pain med- it's an opiate) once a day. The evening was pretty hard, but not hard enough to not want to eat! He ate some kibble in the truck on the way home, and half of his dinner (all that was offered to him) when we got home. He was so scared when he realized he couldn't move his back legs :( and I didn't blame him. He was super crabby and growled at every noise. I finally put him back in his crate, with a blanket over the top and he finally settled down to rest. He slept all night. This morning we got up and took him to potty. He actually was walking (just a few steps but still!) on both back legs. He went potty and ate his breakfast really well. Then we went back to bed and slept till 9! I took him to potty again but he didn't need to. I put him on a huge thick blanket on my lap and tried to sit on the couch with him, but he got really grumpy when the garbage truck went by and wanted back in his crate. He is sleeping now so today I hope will be the worst. Here are some pictures of his leg and my little boy after surgery. First two pics are of his left leg, which was the worst (def. a grade III). I haven't gotten a pic of the right, but it looks exactly the same. The third pic is of him trying to stick his whole head in the kibble on the way home! The fourth is a pic of him finally sleeping last night, on his therapeutic mattress inside a snuggle sack made by his Aunti Delisa.:thumbup: He really seems to like his bed. |
1 Attachment(s) Yikes my update was looooooong :p Here's another pic from this morning. He looks much brighter, but still not nearly my little Ranger-Bug. You can see his eyes are still wacked out from all the drugs. I can't wait a week for him to feel better!! |
