| Flea questions What does a flea look like? Is it like a black speck? Flea dirt is? And if you give your dog a bath and he/she has fleas would there be any in the water? I've been wondering about all this for awhile. And I know some people say you can use Dawn dish soap on them to bathe them, but if you can't find the original Dawn, what do you use? In case anyone's wondering no fleas here, just curious. Thanks. |

My furkids Donating Member | Fleas are very small and very fast...sometimes you can pinch one of them but, in order to kill them you would have to snap them between your nails. Your pup would be scratching if he/she had fleas. Flea dirt looks like little specks of dirt. It could be anywhere on the body but, usually around the tail area and under the belly. Flea dirt is actually dried blood...if you wet it it will turn a dark red. I have heard that dawn does work but, I would be careful not to wash to much with it. It could dry out their skin and hair. You could use the flea control like advantage or frontline (I personally feel these are too strong for dogs)....My girls don't have fleas but, if they did I would use a more natural way to get rid of them. There have been other posts on here of different types of oils you can use to help with flea control. I posted (not that long ago) a natural flea repellent that another member had posted about a year ago.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Dawn detergent can dry skin/hair, but it's not to be used on a regular basis, it is only when you want to treat an existing problem, you soap their body, let it seat for 5 min.and rinse, followed by your usual conditioner.Recently a member mentioned that instead of Dawn you could use Pert shampoo.
