Benefits of Bully Sticks? Hi all.. Ok, I ALWAYS read how Yorkies LOVE bully sticks and how some stink and others don't and how there are hairs that accumulate on them:confused: and so on. I was a vegetarian for 10 yrs and bully sticks give me the willy's (bull's penis--EWWWWWW!) BUT I was able to switch to raw food and am fine with it......so I have to ask.... What are the benefits from Bully Sticks?? Is Snickers missing out by not having them? Can yorkie's digest them properly? Are they nasty? They are nasty to me right now, I see them in stores and thinking of a bull's weiney sitting on my carpet gives me the heebee jeebee's!! I just don't want Snick to be missing out on something great??? |
Lol, I know what you mean. :D Dogs do have a real, instinctive need to chew - so that's one benefit; also good for teeth and jaw. As I understand it, bullies are totally digestible. I get mine on eBay from eddieb260 and they don't stink - I just tried a new eBay vendor who was a bit cheaper - and UGH - STINK stink stink. So, I'll be going back to eddieb. There are YT vendors who sell them too. :) |
Another benefit is they give you a break :D Layla will chew for HOURS if I let her. She absolutely loves them. They are 100% digestible. You just have to watch out when they get too small because they may become a choking hazard. I don't find it to be too gross... the end gets soft and slobbery but it's constantly in her mouth until I take it away and put it in the closet. It dries out again quickly. I use the Moo brand bully sticks and haven't had a problem with smell. |
My guys LOVE bully sticks, especially the spirals. They're good for the teeth and jaws, and they are a great source of protein. They are supposed to be fully digestable. They really aren't nasty at all. They feel like a smooth, clean bone and you can't even tell they were a weinie at one time . Some are too smelly even for me (& I'm not that sensitive to it), so I would recommend you start with some from Westbrook (AMD I think is her username) or another site that has a reduced odor on their sticks. I like Merricks, too but they've gotten so expensive. Oh, let her try just one! Westbrook offers a free sample.....;). |
My guys love bully sticks. I buy them from a member on this site. They have a very low odor. They go crazy for them and now I buy them in bulk so I wont be without! |
Oh, let her try just one! Westbrook offers a free sample.....;).[/quote] BUT IT'S BULL WEINER!!!!!!!!! |

Bella LOVEEES bully bones! But yes they STINK!!!!! ick.. she sure does love em though!:) |
Apple's bully stick, that I bought from a boarding/kennel place that only serves holistic food, etc. smells something horrible!!! I was told they were pure beef, w/no additives, and yada yada yada...I didn't know they were bull weiners:eek:...lol...I'm going to call that place, tomorrow, and tell them what I heard...I'm cracking up here; this is tooooooooo funny...They did, however, say they were high protein & "fat", and not to let her eat the whole thing...Just give it to her for 1/2 hr. or so a couple of times a day, when I needed to do something w/o her under my feet...It works well, when I'm drying my hair, putting on make-up, etc....I don't leave them w/her, when I go to work, because she might get carried away, and they're too fattening, and the pup won't eat his regular diet....Go Viv, take the plunge, feed weenies lololol..... Love, Maggie & Apple:aimeeyork xoxoxox |
Sorry can't help ya. :tongue030 I cant get over what they are!:cow::D |
Maggie.....I don't think I can take this plunge!:p I think the raw is the only plunge I can...haha!! Amanda....I can't get over it either...I almost dry heave just seeing them in the stores along with pig ears, snouts, and all that nasty stuff!!! UGGGHHHH! Maybe if there was some nutrition Snick was missing out on...I just can't do it. GROOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSS Ewwwww Yucky Yuck! Ann.....hahaha reproductive nastiness!! |
Vivian - I had another idea for you - what about Himalayan dog chews? I've meaning to try these forever - and I really should. No gross factor about them. :) |

Vivan, I had luck in finding a NV raw dealer and will be starting Maddie on this in the p.m.'s ASAP! ( With all your excitement on the subject, wanted to let you know you have another follower!! LOL):D |
WHAT??????? Are you serious????...I NEVER knew that is how they got the name!!!! Holy SH@#$%...TOO FUNNY...But I still have to admit it won't stop me from buying them!!! My boys love them...if they only knew the sacrafice a fellow "male" went through...giving up his "boy toy" lol:p |
personally, i dont care if they stink .. if it helps lexi and keeps her busy, the stink will have to stay. |
Ann....the closest place that has the himalayan is like 45 min from me. GEEZ!! I wanna try it, read up, and it looks cool and healthy!! I just can't do the the bully weiney!;) NEVERRRRRR, Snick loves his petstages orka and plastic nylabone. But he will never chew for more than about 10 min. Maddiesmommie....Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!! I should update that thread and mention Snick is basically pooping 1 time a day now...no joke! LOVE IT!! |
I buy mine from the same member AMD, here on YT, because they came so highly recommended. I must tell you that he loves those bully sticks.:thumbup: |
No, your pup isn't missing out on anything because of don't want to give bully sticks. :) I would guess that it is in dog food though... My deprived doggie gets nothing except for raw veggies for chewing and nothing at all right now. She just has too many health issues for chews. :( But she isn't a big chewer and I like that I don't have to worry about her choking. :) |
Eww I had no idea they were bull pp's!!! I better not tell pnut that our my dh!! Dh had a fit when I brought home a pigs nose haha!! I just got pnut the bully stick curly q one and he loves it. I think he likes it more than the stick!:thumbup: |
:lol tears OMG y'all....I am almost wetting myself here reading this thread. I freaked out too when I found out what they are made from. I am going to try the dude on Ebay that was reccomended. I hate the smell too. I have given Daisy Mae the braided ones and they came apart to easy. I am going to try just the sticks and maybe the curled ones too. Good luck...just let your baby have a penis to chew on..it's o.k.!! (sorry) ~Kathy:animal-pa |

hahahaha a penis to chew on!!! Thats toooo much isnt it! yeah i would go with the curly one!! I think he likes it better he has to move the curly penis around more to get a good chew on!!! :D |
I heard that bully sticks are bison tendons not bull penis?? I read they are tendons |
:eyetearss:lol tears:eyetearss:lol tears:eyetearss:lol tears I need to get a life!!!! |
lol well I learned something new. That just grose:eek: |
i used to give my yorkies bully sticks up until my breeder told me that she had a customer who gave their yorkie bully sticks and the yorkie ended up choking on it and died. she said a healthier alternative are those "greenies" dental chews because they break down easier and are easily digestible. i've been giving those to my yorkies as chew treats. since she told me that horror story i've been scared to use them. |
Greenies!!! I have to let you know that my friend gave her Westies Greenies and one of them had to have a $2000 surgery to have it removed from the intestines because it got stuck!! I would never use greenies, there have been more cases of this happening to other doggies as well. For my friend, it was have the surgery or let the pup pass away!!!!! Terrible, of course they had it, but OMG!!!! I think I will just stick to my sweet potato chews and petstages toys. Nothing is safe!!!!!:( |

Another site, (Bully Sticks – All Natural Dog Treats - Best Bully Stick) did not list thier ingredients only said they are made from grass feed Brazilian bulls, so using bulls makes me think they too use weenies. I have nothing against using them....I just can't! SHEWWWY It may depend on where you purchase from as to what is in them. |
