When Bonnie is trying to bite my hands (playing) I say "Where is your Bully?" She runs and gets it, and goes to town on it. It does keep her busy.
I get mine from AMD here on YT. They are light in color and don't stink too bad. They appear alot fresher than the ones at the petco or petsmart.

OK! OK!! I'm going to drive about 10 miles to get my Snickers a Moo! brand odor free bully stick...of course I had to read, and read to figure out which brand would be the best, most healthy, and odor free!!!!! This brand is GREAT!!! I also got him the tibia bone for him last week to help with a last baby tooth which is still in...the bone is a bit big for him but he is loving it...will take the plunge and get the bull weiners!! Ugh! Anything for my babyboy right??!

omg I had no idea that bully sticks were made outta THAT?! I haven't given one to Oliver yet, not even sure if you can get them in Canada, but was thinking about ordering some online as I sometimes just really need a break and his stuffed kong lasts like 5 seconds lately. Is there somewhere that I can (safely) order those Himalayan chews??? I really need to find stuff that will keep him busy for a while... anything to keep him from trying to chew my FLOWER VASE!!! And here I thought getting a one year old would give me a reprieve on the puppy behavior.. HA... was I wrong.

I have found that the Merrick Brand is a good brand. It was recommended to me by Nancy1999. I bought 6 sticks direct from Merrick first just to see if I Sophie would like them, as they are a bit expensive. She LOVED them! So I thought I'd shop around for some that are maybe cheaper, as they are also sold by distributors. Well, although I found them cheaper I got my first shipment of 12 sticks. Where ALL the ones from Merrick had a dia. of at least an inch, this pack of 12 had dia. form 1/4" to maybe 1 or 2 that were a 1/2". So I was a bit disappointed by that. Either way, shop it out and you'll find them. They do stink, however! BTW....I bought some pigs ears over the weekend and I got the "baked" ones. Those didn't smell at all. Have fun! :p

Winston won't even touch a bully stick, how come? I've tried a couple different kinds...not interested. Oh well. I tried.

I found the Moo! bully sticks, bought two 6 inchers (2 bucks a piece) and just gave 1 to Snick...and yes, he is all over it and then some, when I come near him, he takes it and runs!! Hahahah....it's getting kinda slimy and hairy from the chewing and even though they are supposed to be "odor free" um....no, there is a weird smell from them, nothing I can smell away from him, but if I smell the stick itself...blah!

He loves it...is the weird slime and hairy strings normal?? I hope hs beard does not stink that that all day now!!!???? He does love it...and I love him.

Don't go asking for any kisses anytime soon after a bullystick chew. Sophie's breath usually stinks from chewing hers. It goes away though.. LOL! Glad to hear you took the plunge.... :D

Hahahaha, I just took his bully stick away b/c I really want Snick to eat his dinner, and he seems to just LOVES me more than usual, wants to sit right in my lap and cuddle. I just went for a kiss and could faintly smell the bully stick...hahaa...he just loves me!! I mean I knew he did, but wow..what a bully stick does!!

He loves you twice over! :p I do find though, that if Sophie has her bully or ears too much during the day, she doesn't eat much of her kibble. I don't like that too much. Matter of fact, she went through 2 ears this weekend and not nearly enough kibble. So the bully will get a rest tonight and maybe tomorrow. Just so she gets some good food in her.

A dog can choke on any chewing stick, and they say that you should supervise all chewing sticks. Gulpers who swallow large chunks of food at a time probably should not be given any chewing stick, as they will probably swallow too big of a piece. For most dogs, it's not the choking part that is a problem, it's the fact that some sticks are not 100% digestible, easy to digest is different that 100% digestible. The problem with sticks that aren't 100% digestible is that a small piece can cause an obstruction in the intestines, and this is extremely serious, and many dogs have died from this. Greenies had such a problem with this, they stopped making them and the newly formulated product is said to be safer, however they are still not 100% digestible, a small piece "the size of a grain of rice" may not be digestible. While this is not such a problem with bigger breeds, yorkies have smaller intestines, and the small piece might cause an obstruction. The same is true with rawhides; they are not 100% digestible. This is why many of us have turned to bully sticks, they are the only hard stick that I know of that is 100% digestible. The hardness of the stick helps scrape teeth of tartar and is good for gums, but it seems like all other hard sticks have the problem of not being completely digestible. So, I'm willing to put up with the gross thought, if it means that Joey will have a better chance of keeping all his teeth. I like the Merrick brand, they aren't as strong smelling as some, and they are super hard, and last a long time. See this link for more information on Greenies. Also, a word of warning, "100% edible" is not the same as "100% digestible".

Dearest Nancy...you are always a sound voice in a sea of fun! Thanks for that info, as I didn't know that. You are the one who turned me on to the Merrick Brand originally. I believe I stated that somewhere in one of the posts on Bullysticks. BTW...do you happen to know if the same info you stated above goes for pigs ears? As Sophie likes them even more than the bullystick. Are they 100% digestible?

I think pig ears are 100% digestible but don't quote me on that! I do know they're more fattening though and not as good for them.

Oh aren't you sweet! Before I even got a Yorkie, I was really concerned about one of their weaknesses inherent in the breed, and that is tartar. Tartar is no minor thing; it leads to gingivitis and tooth loss. Many Yorkies lose their teeth at a young age, due to tartar buildup, and it causes a host of problems including bad breath, and even more serious problems, such as heart disease. Bacteria can get in gum pockets, and go to the heart. So I've tried to do everything I could to help prevent tartar build-up. Toothbushing, Petzlife, dry kibble, and hard chewing sticks, are some of the choices I've made. The bully sticks are mainly an aid to cleaning the teeth, he just happens to love chewing on them. The pig ear, and cow ears are mainly a "snack" treat, and because Joey tends to have a weight problem, he doesn't need snacks. Here's what one site says about pig ears, I did feed him a cow's ear, I got from the vet, and he ate it in less than a day. :eek:

I knew you'd set me straight! Sophie ate both of hers this weekend also. I find that if I give her either the Bullystick or Pig Ears, she doesn't want to eat her kibble. So I told my daughter (daytime furbabysitter) that she is not permitted to have the bullystick laying out all day any longer. Hopefully this will inspire her to head back to the kibble dish. :rolleyes:

She must have some really sharp teeth; it takes Joey a whole week to eat a Bully Stick. It doesn't seem to interfere with his appetite at all, maybe you could give it to her after dinner. :D

You know...she sure does have sharp teeth. She just started ripping all her fur/cloth toys to shreds. I don't know what her problem is lately. I'm throwing away more toys simply because she's trying to eat the darn things! Hence the reason I started buying the bullysticks. She loses interest in those sometimes, so I seen a 2 pak of pigs ears at the grocery store. They were "baked" and I've read if they are baked they don't smell as much. They didn't smell at all, actually. Anyway, she tore through the first one on Saturday and the second one on Sunday.

So I'm assuming the slimy stringy goopy strings are normal?? I gave Snick his bully for 15 min again today and he went to town on it. Thank goodness the smell vanishes from his beard or else I think the bully would be in the trash...smells WEIRD!!! But Snick's happy...thats all I care about.

has any one tried sheep ears, they are smaller and white in colour,better than pig ears and much cleaner and George loves chewing on one, then hides it away till next time, have to watch out when it gets too small as i'm scared he might choke.

You mention those slimy stringy goopy strings, and they remind me of dental floss, I often hold his stick for him, and I would think those strings would act a lot like dental floss, I hope so!

Haha, there's bulls but I guess they don't.. ummm.. use that part? lol.. I went looking for bully sticks today and all I could find was something called bullwrinkles. I did get him some but I don't think I will again - they don't last long and I'm not sure if they are good for him. I guess I need to order some bully sticks!

BTW, are pigs ears really bad? I gave them to Freeway every now and again and he went NUTS for them... I know Ollie would love em but I don't want to give them to him if they're really bad for him.. with his LP we need to keep his weight down!
