| How do you give heart worm preventivie meds... Prince is on to me! I used to be able to give him pills rolled up in a meat (Nathan's all beef hot dogs or chicken) that he loves, but now he checks it out and will not eat it. He used to basically inhale it. His heart worm preventative pills are rather big, as you know, and when I try to cut them, of course they crumble. I made a paste from a little water, a small piece of hot dog and his heart worm pill blended together. I put tiny chunks of a hot dog in there after blending to throw him off. Ok, didn't work! Now I'm trying to figure out how to get him to eat the paste mixture so I don't waste his last pill. Any ideas!!!! Those "Greenie Pockets" are not an option. Thanks!

| Your saying Heartworm Pill. The Heartworm meds I give Buddy is a soft chew. Are you talking about that? I just break it in two and put it on the floor. It's gone in a flash. If it's something different how about putting pieces into a piece of cheese and squeeze the cheese closed and give that way. |

| Try peanut butter, or even regular butter....cheese, or sometimes i'll just pill fiona- since i was a vet tech we would have to just put it down their throat- i know that sounds harsh, but sometimes you gotta make sure they get what they need! good luck!

| Prince uses a chewable tablet called Tri-Heart Plus. The peanut butter and cheese ideas are great, and Prince used to fall for that..now he will analyse the food and walk away.

| I just gave Nemo his first flea pill today and he tried to eat it but I think it was too hard for his little baby teeth so I used peanut butter because its what my parents did for me and I was like what the heck....I was like you and I didn't want to waste the pill...those suckers aren't cheap! He inhaled it to my surprise...ok it wasn't a total surprise he inhales everything he finds...i mean EVERYTHING |

| Mine didn't like the soft chews at all. I tried Iverhart Plus which is a tiny pill but chewable so you don't have to shove it down their throat. My dog really likes them and chews them plain - I don't have to hide them in food.

| Try cream cheese, too. I've also heard people use liverwurst for really picky dogs. |

| The heartworm pills I use are tiny, and I do mean tiny, and they are liver flavored. Can you look into different brands of pills to see if there are any available that are smaller and maybe taste better for your baby? Before I even get the package out, I start talking to Silvia in a high pitched happy voice and ask her "do you want a treat?" Of course she goes nutz! Then I keep asking her while I open the package and hold it in front of her. She will take that thing in one swallow and be happy about it when I act like that. Then I of course do give her one of her treats right behind it. Now, I have tried to give her the exact same pills without doing this and she will sniff it and fight me to the end. It's all in a matter of how you give it to her, sometimes.

| I mix pills up with canned dog food. My GP has to take daily supplements for his joints that are like human vitamin sized, so I mix them in with his dinner. Which is a mixture of dry and canned food. I use Interceptor flavored tablets for their heart worm preventative (it also treats hookworms, roundworms and whipworms). I agree with making a treat out of it. The other two this works on, but Barley doesn't fall for that and doesn't care for the taste. I'll put it in a small amount of canned dog food and he eats it. I tried this trick with his antibiotics before and some days it'd work and others I had to force it down his throat. But after he gets a treat for tolerating it. Hope that helps.
