| Brushing teeth and top knots?? Does anyone brush their yorkies teeth? And how do you do it? I tried last night with doggie toothpaste and a little thingy you put on ure finger for brushing dogs teeth Marley didnt like that AT ALL lol Also i took the bow out of her hair bc my husband refused to take her outside to potty if she had a bow in her hair because he is self concious about being labled a "fruit cake" for walking a dog around with a pink bow LoL so i was wondering how to just put it in a little top knot with a hair tie made for dogs hair ( the ouchless kind that dont pull out hair ) . I tried to give her a little pony/ top knot last night and it looks like crap lol . I am thinking id rather just get her hair cut so she doesnt need to pull it up out of her face... any suggestions? | Gracie Ruth and Yogi's mouths are too tiny for me to use one of the finger toothbrushes. I use a regular toothbrush and kind of squish the toothpaste into the bristles and then let them chew on it. As for the top knot, I use the tiny little scrunchies that I can get at the Dollar Store. I'm not sure if you have something similar in Japan, but anywhere that carries items for little girls should have the tiny scrunchies. As for your "fruit cake" DH tell him to come on here and see how many men not only walk their girls with bows on, but actually own and dress the cuties themselves. I about died the first time I came home and found DH had not only put a tee-shirt on Gracie Ruth (he said she was cold) but coordinated it with a matching scrunchie and matching sparkly barrets. DH loves his little girl and is not afraid to show it.

YT 500 Club Member | I'm in teh same boat with you. As far as keep teh hair out of the face, Meg is still young (5.5 mo) and doesn't have a huge mop on her head yet, so I am able to use these tiny little Goody clips. I use one or two and they work great. goody mini clips - Google Product Search

| I've been brushing Ellie's teeth for 2 years and she still hates it. I just do it and she gets over it. Can someone hold her for you?

| I use a piece of gauze wrapped around my idex finger to "brush" their teeth. Neither of my girls likes it, but we do it daily. Sometimes I use doggie toothpaste, sometimes just the gauze.

As far as the topknot goes....neither one of mine will tolerate it. I get the "fruitcake" comment when I put it in the male's hair, and the female will take your hand off if you come near her with anything that even remotely looks like a rubberband. I have even muzzled her to get it in, then five minutes later, her nail is caught in it and out it comes. If she gets it out on her own, she shreds it in a very militant manner....hehehehehe. Let me know if you figure this one out....I am aaaallll ears!!!! | |

Senior Yorkie Talker | The best technique for brushing is to put your pup on the kitchen counter or any counter. This makes them more obedient...I guess it's the fear of heights... Take your pointer finger and draw back the side of their mouth to expose the molars, since this is the primary location of plaque and tarter. Give them a good scrubbing. My vet said it's OK to make the gums bleed. Do all back teeth and then the fronts and canines. When you do the fronts, gently grab the beard fur and pull down the lower lip. It's all in the technique....try not to hurt the dog...they remember pain... You will have to reload the toothbrush a few times with paste. Mine loves the chicken flavored one. If you get them used to it, they will allow you to do it without struggle. Be sure to rinse with your finger or a soft cloth. Give the pup a treat afterwards to reward the good behavior. I hope this helps. |

| This might be a really dumb question, but does it have to be "dog" tooth paste?? |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Human Toothpaste Human toothpaste is not recommended, in that it is meant to be "spit out," something our pups are not capable of doing. It contains ingredients that can cause a reaction. Doggie toothpaste is much yummier anyway... |
