YT 2000 Club Member | blood too fatty? This doenst pertain to my yorkie mix, but I was looking for some advice. I will try and keep it short. My sheltie is a the vets for coughing, however they didnt find anything wrong (whole story in brothers and sisters) they did do blood work to check white count and thyroid, (which they think is the problem) however the couldnt get a good reading on anything because he had to much fat in his blood, they told me the name lipidus something and it has happened before, he has blood work done because he is on phenobarital for siezures. Had him retested after a week, with a 12 hour fast, came back normal. I guess this is a common problem among shelties and snauzers. When I asked the vet what causes this, she said they dont break down food the they should making the blood fatty. He is being put on a special/presciption diet from the vets for at least a week then we will retest. Ok so my question.. does anyone know what part of the food that they dont break down causing it to become fatty? Is is all of the food, a certian ingredient like the protien etc? Thanks..
