| OK, maybe stupid question... Around Jackson's butthole, under his tail, it's this weird looking tumor-like thing... it basically looks like a butthole but it's like a little bigger? I dunno, I've just never noticed it before. Are those his anal glands? lol. Or is that not normal? I attached a picture but it's kinda hard to see. Like I said, maybe stupid qustion, but I've never seen it.

| Not too sure what it could be. You made me look at Hot Rod's butt - he's not real happy with me at the moment for it-, lol. He doesn't have anything like that on him. Hope someone can answer for you.

| Sorry, I can't help you. I've never noticed that on mine. That's a cute little butt, though!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I can't quite tell from this pic, but is there a protrusion that is mainly on the right side there? Or, is it all the way around? A little "puffiness" is normal, but if there is a larger lump or area, then a vet should probably look at it - it could be just that the anal glands are full. What are you feeding? If it is the glands, you may want to change to a different diet as this can help avoid the filling, and allow for the normal, natural emptying that occurs when the poo.

| I'm feeding the Dog Whisperer puppy food but once he finished with this bag, I'm planning on switching to Wellness. And it's in the middle, not to the right. I was kind of thinking, could they be his testicles? lol... I've never had a boy dog before. They kind of look like "balls." haha. Well, he's going in for his neuter soon so maybe I should just ask then?

You are talking about the 2 pinkish looking ovals in the center of the picture? All I see are his testicles in the picture.

| LOL, yeah, the 2 pinkish looking things. They look like balls to me but they're like sorta under his tail so I wasn't sure if it was his anal glands or his testes, lol! Oh boys! It sounds gross but they are kinda "attached" to his "wiener" if you know what I mean... even tho the balls are kinda far away from the wiener? hahaha! I can't even believe I'm having this convo!! I guess I'll find out when I get him neutered!

| Where is the rectum? Anal glands are on each side of the rectum. Is that where this swelling is? If so, then he needs to see a Vet. ASAP. (of course he needs to see a Vet. anyway) They will need to be lanced. Anal glands are to help lubercate during a bowel movement. If the anal glands get impacted it's usually do to the diet that isn't high in fiber and the lack of exercise like a brisk long walk. Let us know what the Vet. says.

It is my first boy pup too! I was worried when they first started to decend and at a check-up the vet said that his testicles were starting to decend. I was like "Oh is that what those are" -LOL

Sorry getting graphical here. If he is laying on his back and you cn see them then those are his balls. If it is actually right around his butt hole on the sides of it (anus) than those are his anal glands. See picture of max in his "glory days" before he was "snipped" http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y27...ictures108.jpg

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | To see the anal glands, you usually have to lift the tail completely up,they surround the anus. Joey's would occasionally fill with fluid, and needed to be emptied when he was a puppy. Most dogs empty the glands when pooping, but for some reason, Joey didn't empty the glands, and the area around the anus would be slightly poofy, and he would start doing the butt scoot, which is a sure sign of a problem. This does look like the testicles to me, and they are located further down from the anus. You do not want to squeeze the testicles! Here's a link with more information, it is not clear in the picture what it is, but I hope it's not the anal glands because that would indicate a serious problem, and you would need to see a vet immediately. Anal Sacs
