Yorkie Yakker | Orijen Puppy Food? Have anyone used Orijen puppy formula? The protein is about 42% and I'm not sure if that's too high. I want to switch my puppy slowly to products that do not have gluten, corn, or grain. Also, artificial coloring. I've had 2 dogs before (Spanish Spaniel and Chihuahua) and never bought natural dog food. Can anyone suggest a good formula that has worked? My puppy is currently eating IAMs puppy formula and she doesn't eat much of it. |

| Sorry I don't know much about the puppy food but I have Layla on Orijen food for adults and she has done great on it. I hope someone else can help you out with input about the amount of protein! The great thing about food without fillers is it doesn't take as much to give them what they need, and there's less poop to clean up

| I am using Nature's Variety Instinct and all my babies are doing great on it. They like to eat it and they have beautiful coats and teeth. (They eat NV raw in the morning and have the Instinct kibble for dinner). The Nature's Variety website offers good coupons for their different types of foods.

Thanks! I'm just worried because the puppy formula contains 42% protein, which can be extremely high for little dogs. My puppy only weighs 3 lb right now. I just don't want her to turn out to be a freak of nature (you know buff yorkie). I like the "less poop to clean". Since the IAMs dog food is causing her to get major poop on the back of her hair.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | I think there are a few other thread on this forum about high protein dog food. My boy is on EVO which is also very high in protein. As long as your baby has no problems then you will be fine. I think dogs with kidney or pancreas issues shouldn't have such a high protein diet. But in general this is fine. I recommend checking out some old posts, I think I saw something about this lately. Good Luck! |

you know I didn't start feeding my boy EVO until he was around 2yrs old. So I didn't realize they didn't have puppy formula. I do see cat & kitten formula so I am not sure if puppies can eat the regular small bites formula. But I would recommend calling someone who sells EVO and asking them about it

Yorkie Yakker | I just went to get Orijen Puppy formula and mixed her old food to eventually transition her into the new one... She left all her old kibbles in the bowl and only ate Orijen. It amazes me how she can spit the old kibbles and only eat the Orijen Kibbles. They look the same but the Orijen is darker than IAMs. You have to look close to know the difference. It's a expensive but well worth it. Good thing my friend's brother owns a pet store (Healthy Spot: Natural & Organic Dog Food, Treats & Toys) so he knew everything about Orijen. He recommends EVO too but they don't make puppy formula and he recommended that after she's 18 months old |

Yorkie Yakker | My Penny ate her Orijen last night and her poop came out so firm First time where she did not have any poop stuck to her hair. And she loved the kibbles too. This morning I found her near the Orijen Puppy bag sitting and waiting, which was so cute because my husband and I taught her to 'sit'. I'm still mixing her old food with the Orijen to transition her slowly but she leaves the old puppy dog behind |

| The EVO is supposed to be for all life stages. You just have to feed the puppies more of it.
