| Puppy leaking urine during her sleep Hi, I posted in the general forum and didn't get many responses. I thought I would try here. My new puppy, Tatum, is 16 weeks old and is doing great with potty training. When she takes naps she will leak urine. Sometimes alot and other times very little. She doesn't have any other signs of a urinary tract infection and the vet thought she would grow out of it. It is frustrating because she is doing so well with everything else.Unfortunately, she needs a bath often. Maybe her bladder muscle isn't fully developed yet???? Or, do you think it may be a urinary tract infection.. Has any one else had this issue with their puppies???? Thanks so much for your help.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would have the vet test her urine. It could be a UTI or a kidney issue. I had Dixie who had congenital kidney failure and she would leak once in awhile but the most obvious sign was her urine on the pee pads was absolutely clear and her urine had no odor. Hopefully your baby is just sleeping too soundly or has a little infection but I would try and get a urine sample to the vet so you know for sure. Keep us posted.

| To me, it sounds like a UTI. We had a dog come to our work one day and everytime she would lay down, we'd lift her tail and see a little pee puddle. Mom told us it was a UTI and she was getting it taken care of. I sure hope it isn't some sort of kidney problem. Good luck! |

| My Piper did that when she was a puppy. I would pick her up out of her bed and there would be urine in her bed and all over her. I was convinced that she had an urinary bladder infection so I brought her to the vets. They did all kinds of tests and found nothing wrong. The vet said it was an immature bladder. I also had a hard time housebreaking her. She had to pee every half hour or so. I use to call her Piddle Piper. She is now 8 months old housebroken and no leaky bladder. Good thing because she sleeps in my bed.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That's good her urine is yellow that means she is concentrating it and the kidney's are working. My vet let me bring in a urine sample when Cali had an UTI and within minutes they knew and gave me meds while I waited. Cali's signs of a UTI were she peed on my bed and had never done that before and was licking herself a lot. Hopefully since she is so young it is just an immature bladder.

| Piper was about 12 weeks old when I first noticed that she leaked urine when she was sleeping. It wasn't something that happened every day but it happened often enough that it really concerned me. By the time she was 5 months it had stopped completely. She was a baby during the summer and she was drinking a lot of water because of the heat. I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

| I know this is from January, But I was wondering if you are still having the problem? My Taylor does the same thing. She has pretty much done this since we got her. I have had a battery of test, and nothing wrong. I was wondering if your has out grown it yet. Taylor was born Oct. 12, 2008. Just when I think she's not doing it any more she does it again..... Thank You Tami <>< |
