| People Food Since bringing Bear home 2 months ago we have been trying not to let him have people food. He's so little and I feel like it would mess with his system, I also want him to learn how not to beg at the table. How old were your pups before you let them have people food? What did you start them off with? |

| Max is 1 yr now and does not eat "people" food. Unless you count raw carrots and a small banana piece every now and then. When we eat at the dinner table or any other time we ignored him. Now he will usually go over to his bowl and eat his food in his bowl while we are eatting. By people food I assume you mean "table scraps"

| We have not even given him any fruits or veggies yet. I'd rather he never eat table scraps...... |

| I am quilty of giving mine some table scraps but its not a good habit to get into. Mine are always begging while we are eating. Some people homecook for their yorkies but they are balanced and they also also give suppliments that they need

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Unless you are homecooking...there is really no need in giving him "people" food. Provide a high quality food and he'll get all the nutrients he needs. Adding people food generally means weight issues later on.

| I am constantly yelling at my boyfriend for giving Fiona people food. She gets way to much, and I even had the vet say something to my boyfriend about this. I mean, she doesnt get bad things, mostly chicken pieces, and popcorn, but I really hate that she has any people food in her system. I will make her lay down when we are eating, and that has seem to stop her from begging.

| I can understand why some people don't give people food because of the begging issue but there are tons of things that they can safely have (including pups). After feeding almost solely kibble for a few years, unless there is a medical issue, I will never do that again. How boring would that be? And the stuff is so processed. Fresh meat and vegetables are good to add.

| All my babies are crazy about steamed broccoli, squash and green beans. For morning snack they get a couple bites of banana and cherrios. Dixie, my 12 year old girl will start barking and dancing around in the morning when she knows it is snack time. I don't mind and little begging, after all they are like little children. |

| Personally I can't figure out why anyone would want to feed their fur-babies boiled down, dead, diseased animal carcuses rather than real, healthy food. Between commercial pet food and treats, being over medicated and inoculated, treated with flea repellents it's no wonder our pets are not living to be in their 20's, and have medical issues and serious problems. Here is some info on pet food that I keep trying to get out to everyone. Here is some information on what "really" goes into the making of animal food: Rendering: the "Invisible Industry" Gets a Green Facelift | Center for Media and Democracy Food Pets Die For; a Book Excerpt http://drjackie.freeservers.com/arti...ven_a_dog.html Welcome to Born Free USA united with Animal Protection Institute WHO REGULATES THE PET FOOD INDUSTRY Please read up, do your homework, "then" decide if you want to feed your baby things you know will cause serious health problems. I've been home cooking for 50 years. It's the best!!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | While I agree that home cooking or human food can be very healthy for our pets, I just want to add that they need a different balanced diet than humans, so if this is the direction you would like to go, please read more about it, as supplementation is always necessary. Sometimes adding chicken to their kibble can just make them fussy and they won't eat their kibble, chicken alone is not balanced. Vegetables don't seem to have this effect.

| You don't just feed chicken. Anyway, read how dog food is made.

| I tried giving Maddie "healthy" people food whenever we were having dinner. However, Maddie totally quit eating her food. Not only did she become a picky eater, but she seemed to develop digestion problems. I had to put her on moist, canned, food to get her to eat something. (I was informed that canned food is not that good for her either. It is too rich for thier tiny systems.) In my experience I wish I had never introduced her to "people" food. I have started her on Iams Smart Puppy because it is the only thing she'll eat right now. |

| I do not understand why pet owners think that a bag of pet food is healthy and that is healthy, therefore ur little one should eat only that..i do not see wild animals carrying bags of food around... healthy food is food ur body has to process..by the way table scraps ....why would u want to feed ur dog the garbage u do not eat ? real food is what people and animals eat ...how would u like to be told u can only eat this box of stuff because a company tells u it has all u need to eat in it, to be healthy? FORGOT..for the rest of ur life... |
