| Ava's eye is still not completely better and I have made an appointment with an opthalmologist next week if it is not significantly better by then I will take her in for an evaluation. She seems perfectly healthy otherwise though, thank goodness. |

| Hi! I just tried to post a quick reply, but I did something wrong as it did not post! When it rains it pours! I had my little girl yorkie tested for a liver shunt at a very reputable hospital. She had an ultrasound and the they found clearly what they needed to see and everything looked normal. She also had blood work drawn from each side of her neck ( a fasting sample, as she had not eaten, and then after given some food, another sample). The acid bile tests was "normal" even though it had been extremely high a couple of weeks earlier. After the procedures were done and I saw her, her left eye looked funny. I thought it was just due to the sedation she had received prior to the ultrasound. Well, the test was done on 1/8/09 and today is 1/19/09. her eye looked sticky even after cleaning it gently with warm water. I thought that perhaps she had a cold or something. This morning I took her to my vet and he stated that she has an eye ulcer! We do not know what could have happened but we believe her eye must have been inadvertently scratched during the exam. We called the hospital and are waiting for a return call from the doctor who, hopefully, we will hear from on Monday. She is now on 2 different types of eye drops every 6 hours. My baby has to wear an e-collar 24/7 for a month. She cannot touch or rub her eye at all or the problem may become worst. I am not a happy camper. I am so glad to read that your baby is healing from her eye ulcer. Any advice anyone has for me will be sincerely appreciated. As far as the liver shunt issue goes, we will have her blood tested again at the end of the month to check for the acid bile reading. I have given my vet info from Cornell University about the protein C test and he is going to follow up this coming week for me. Thanks for any eye ulcer info you can give me. DAB |

| Ava is SO adorable. Gosh she's cute. Glad to hear she is doing better. It scares me that one of the vet's thinks this could be a reaction to a vaccine. I hope that you are doing better as well, sorry to hear you were in the hospital.

| So happy to read here that your yorkie's eye is getting better. My Yorkie was diagnosed with an eye ulcer this morning. What medications are you using? I am using 2 different eye drops applied every 6 hours----Atropine Opthsoln and Ofloxacin Ophthalmic Solution. My little girl has to wear an e-collar 24/7 so she can't paw at the eye. I have been told that it will probably be a month before it clears if all goes well. I am a bit worried. Thank you inadvance for a response from anyone who has dealt with this problem. DAB |
