| Too much poo !!!!!! I switched foods and have a question about , uh...poo Right now Chloe and Sydney are eating Nature's Variety (Prairie) kibble in chicken flavor. In the morning feeding I mix about a tablespoon of canned food in with the kibble ( right now I'm using Blue buffalo canned venison , I was planning on ordering NV canned after the last BB can was gone) I have noticed they both poo really soon after eating it, and poo ALOT ! I mean Chloe is 2.5 lbs and she will poo two 3 inch poos after eating breakfast...at the same time ! I mean how can she have that much poo !! and she will poo atleast three more times throughout the day ( minimum) And yesterday Sydney was literally pooing almost right after she finished eating . I picked up her bowl washed and dried it , turned around and she was pooing and walking like she couldn't stop it. she NEVER poos in the house she is three y/o and unless she is sick she won't poo in the house , and it was alot ! So is it the little bit of canned food doing it...They have been on it for a while so I didn't think it would still be messing with their systems , they poo alot more now and alot more often...I am not sure if it's the dry , canned or the combo. What do you think? I can't take all this poo !!!!!!! They really don't like the NV kibble without the canned , they will eat it but don't really care too. Their poo is a little less without the canned ( they just get canned w/dry kibble in the a.m. the rest of the day is just dry kibble only) but still way more than usual! Should I switch ? I really would hate to give up the canned , they seem to love it and don't like the NV kibble much without it...suggestions , thoughts, opinions

| That's the thing ...they don't appear to be eating any more , except for the tablespoon or so of wet food for Sydney and the teaspoon or so of wet food for Chloe everything else is the same. They each still only get a 1/2 cup....(or less , depending on which dog) of dry kibble total for the day. I just give them half of the daily serving mixed with the canned for breakfast and then about two hours later I will put the other half of the dry kibble down and just leave it for them. I guess it's possible that little bit extra is adding alot to their bodies. This morning I didn't give them any canned food and Sydney still pooed so fast we could hardly get her out the door When Syd was on grain free ( BB wilderness) she only pooed twice a day...but it stunk so bad ! when she was on crappy food ( beneful) she only pooed twice a day....now on NV and canned she will poo 5 times or more a day and lots of it. Chloe too. I just don't get it ...I thought better food would equal less poo.

YT 2000 Club Member | honestly, you should switched foods, if they are pooing that much they arent getting what they need from it. Tucker was that way with TOTW food, (actually all of my dogs) he did ok with it the first few months he was on it then he started pooping up to 7 times a day. Can you just try the canned for a while, since you said that they had been on that the longest and see what happens?

| Uggh...I hate having to switch foods again. I thought for sure NV would work. I don't know why I thought that , just overly hopeful I guess. Maybe I will take away the canned for a while and see how it goes on just the dry kibble ( if they will eat it) and see if that helps. They did eat it {dry} before , but only as much as they needed to live , not because they enjoyed it This is a serious question , I'm not trying to be a smarty here , but.......Are dogs suppose to look like they enjoy the food ? Mine only get excited if I mix the wet food with it or give them homemade chicken . They don't look like they enjoy their kibble at all . Should I be concerned about that or just not care as long as they are eating it and have no bad reactions to it? I swear I almost tempted to give them beneful again just to watch them enjoy a meal...Don't worry ,I WONT .... but I swear this is soooo frustrating !! So far we had Chloe on Science diet ( from her breeder) and Syd on Beneful ...Chloe hated SD but they both ate the beneful...great....then I find this site and learn how HORRIBLE beneful is !! So off we go to buy Blue Buffalo which they barely tolerate and Syd was sick for weeks so we go to BB wilderness instead....which they still barely like and won't eat any lifesource bits....so off once again to NV prairie kibble ....and surprise , they barely eat it. So I mixed a can of Venison food from BB I had yet to try and they devoured it ! Now they start crapping like little mega poo machines so again ....were off to the store Why can't it just be as easy as you buy a good food they love the good food everyone is happy...don't they know how much easier that would make it

Yes , I ordered some NV raw medallions and some NV instinct canned . Dh didn't want to feed raw, that's why I went with NV . I was hoping to do the rotation of kibble/canned/raw . I wanted to start with the kibble then add canned then eventually add raw after dh got a little more use to the idea The only place local that carries NV only carries the prairie kibble formula's and limited raw. They don't carry the instinct grain free kibble or any canned. You have to order those as well as some of the raw ( not enough demand for it she said) So since they only had prairie kibble I started with that. All went well. No big issues. They didn't love it ...but they ate it when they got hungry enough. They were pooing more but I figured that was from the food change and it would eventually even out... So I wanted to add the NV canned to the mix. I placed my order ( they only order every two weeks) and while I was waiting I decided to just use the can of Blue buffalo Venison I had bought but never used. It was O.K./ the same for a while....then all the poo seemed to start !! I mean Syd will literally eat , swallow , and then poo !! It's like a two minute delay from end of meal to poo !!! and it's ALOT of poo. Syd poos out the equivalent of about two hot dogs ( sorry for the mental picture ) after each meal and she is only eating a tablespoon or so of wet food w/ 1/2 cup or so of kibble. I really don't want to switch foods , I like the idea of the rotation diet. So for now I am thinking I will go back to feeding just the NV dry kibble for a while and see if the pooing subsides. If it does I will add the NV canned ( instinct) .... Then if all goes well I will start the raw medallions into the rotation . I really want this food to work for them , but I can't take all the poo ( neither can they !) I wish this was easy

| Why not try Wellness Core, my dogs really ENJOY eating it, and it's grain free. They love it! I couldn't do raw either but this seems to be a good alternative for now.

I know how you feel I have done the same thing in the last 3ish years, I have switched from one food to another only because of the "high premium food, is better" statement that everyone keeps throwing out there. Im not saying they arent better, but if your pet wont iteat it whats the point in trying to make them?? I have came to the conclusion that I will feed my pets what they will eat. If its not on the list of top knotch than so be it. If your dogs did well on the beneful than why not put them back on it??? I know its not the best out there, but if your pets enjoyed, then it's worth it. Yes, your pets should enjoy eating, they shouldnt be made to eat something they dont like. You wouldnt eat liver if you didnt like it right? (not being rude, just making a point ). Good luck with your pet food search, I hope you can find something they will eat and enjoy!! oh have you tried dogswell? I just put my dogs on it and they love it. They wouldnt touch any of the other better foods but totw. Its not the highest quality food, but its not the lowest either. They make some awesome treats too.

| Omg I was laughing as i was reading this b/c i can so relate. it's amazing how MUCH poo can come from a 4lb pup after eating. MINE is the same way. (Chicken soup for Puppy Soul) I said something to our vet last week when i picked Dudley up after his dental about this. I made my points about the quality foods and how i really liked the idea for him. But i can't believe how much poo he produces. Vet mentioned although that high quality is best, it doesn't mean it's going to agree w/ your pups system. he said the richness could be a bit much. I haven't swiched yet. I'm going to wait until we get back from our trip next month to play around w/ different foods. Oh he did give me i/d, i have put SOME in w/ the Chicken Soup and does eat it but I'm not sold on it....I'll follow this post for ideas...THANKS

After I stopped with that food , all those symptom's stopped. They sometimes lick a paw occasionally now and then but for the most part they do none of that now. I really do understand what your saying about what is the point of high quality food if they wont eat it ....but I do believe a high quality food without corn by products etc. would be better for them , especially given Syd's reaction to the others , so even if it takes a while I will try and go through them slowly to find "the one" I want to give them the best that they will eat. I was hoping by stopping the canned food , the poo would subside...but so far...still alot of poo

I have a dog that is allergic to corn too, he gets nasty spots on is skin and Tucker is allergic to something in food I just dont know what. Right now he is doing very on the dogswell, no more itching. So I do compelety understand that you dont want to feed them that food ( i was trying to make a point..) and I also understand your frustration about changing foods, Ive done it a ton of times and it really does get annoying. Hopefully you will find one that is good to your little ones and the pooing stops.
