| New Tiny baby with Big pot belly?? I just purchased my little girl yesterday. She is 9 weeks and a little under 2lbs. I have plenty of questions but the main one right now is her belly. She is teeny tiny but with the belly of an old man. Its big. She eats well, is extremely active and slept through the night. Should I be concerned about her big belly? I'm new here and very grateful and excited to be a part of this community now. Thanks everyone |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What you're describing to me sounds bloated and/or overly big. At that age, yes, I'd be concerned - it could be worms or any number of things. I mean, puppies do have round bellies, but what you're describing sounds like more than that. I'd get her to the vet asap. Oh - and CONGRATS!!

| I concur with Ann. An overly bloated appearance can be a sign of worms. Go ahead with your question.

| I'd take her to the vet as well. Sunday night I noticed Chewy's belly seemed quite a bit larger than normal & it seemed bloated. Monday morning he woke up sick. The vet confirmed he had some sort of parasite causing tummy troubles. A few days on meds & he's back to normal! Keep us updated. |

| It does sounds like she needs to be wormed. That's normal at that age. Good luck to you and welcome to YT. Don't forget an update. |

| I will Jennifer. I had a 4 yr old baby boy pass away in December because of a tumor in his abdomen so I am extra nervous and cautious about everything with her! Even though my first little man was healthy as a horse and very happy..he passed. Im trying to be very cautious with her in these first few months with us to get her growing and happy in our home. Im going to be frequenting this site and hopefully getting to know all of you. Thanks again ladies. Im gonna take her when I get off work and I will know something then. |

| I know what you mean about being nervous and cautious. My dh says I'm as bad about these puppies as I was when I first brought my skin-babies home. I just can't help it...they are my babies, too. Right now my issue is finding the right food for them. Good luck at the vet...I'm sure she'll be just fine. Oh, and post some pictures for us to see. I love looking at babies! |
