| Pre-op or not? Pasquale is almost 8 months old. So yesterday i called his vet to make an appointment for his neuter. He also has a few baby teeth that havent come out so he has to have those removed also. Well when i called i expected the receptionist to say Pasquale needed to come in for a pre-op. Well she didnt mention it. So i did. She said "hold on lemme ask the vet if you need one". Well she came back saying the vet said we didnt need one. I'm totally uncomfortable with just bringing my baby in for surgery without the doctor examining him first. Am i wrong to think this? Am i overreacting? For those of you that had your baby's spayed/neutered already....did you all have a pre-op visit beforehand?

Donating YT 10K Club Member | If not requested otherwise our vet only performs a limited blood panel the day of surgery. I have always requested a detailed blood panel and the results take a couple of days. I'd call them back and tell them you want a detailed blood panel.

| I agree - having full bloods done can pick up any problems which you may not be aware of pre-op, just to be on the safe side.

YT 2000 Club Member | Tucker will have his pre-op done on the day of his surgery, he has to be there by 7am. Could it be possible that they are just going to his pre-op the same day of his surgery?

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Just make sure they do pre op bloodwork the day of surgery. I usually have it done a few days before so there are no surprises the day of surgery. Good luck.

| Some vets are just like that. I can't figure out why. I guess they want to be held liable for things. Some vet offices can do blood work the same day as surgery and any animal going under anesthesia should be examined that day, so you may not need an actual appt. If they were just planning on putting him under and not offering blood work and an exam, I wouldn't be going there.
