| Labs to request from vet and more.... I am going to be scheduling another appointment for Suri to have her wellness check. I need to get her microchipped, possibly a rabies vaccine and also labs done. (Most likely on different days as to not overwhelm her) Any who... what labs should I make sure they do? I asked the tech and they said it was a complete lab set. But I want to make sure that I get all the components I want. I want to test for liver shunt, CBC, etc... Can someone please post individually what I should be getting. Suri will be 8 months old. Also about how much am I looking at, as a range. She quoted me about $160 just for the lab work, $60 for the chip, $17 for the rabies, and $49 for the appointment. Thank you

| wish i could help you. I jsut ask for a full blood panel and i tell them it is because i home cook. I know it checks liver enzymes, white blood cell count, pancrase enzymes and iron... however i have no idea what else it covers.. sorry. but YAY For you for being pro active! This is how i found out about Layla's pancreastitis and we are SO lucky we caught it early- often pups don't make it once it has developed to the stage where they show symptoms. Hope it all comes back great |

| I think it varies... Just had complete blood work for Maddie before her spay surgery....checking her kidney and liver functions....CBC etc.....it was 40 bucks. It was 44.99 for her microchip (including 1st year of service). I live in a small town though. |

| Yes, I just had Maddie spayed, microchipped, blood work, and 6 baby teeth pulled. Her bill broke down to: $123 for spay, $40 for blood work prior to surgery, $44.99 for microchip and 1st year service, and $10 extra for 6 teeth pulled. Total bill was $217.99. |

| If she isn't having surgery and is a young dog, all of this is optional (but a very good idea). At about seven-years-old, it is necessary and every year after (except the bile acids test which may only need to be done once after age 20 weeks). Complete Blood Count General Health/Electrolyes Panel (this may be called something different at your vet office but it measures liver enzymes, etc.) Bile Acids Test (Make sure they send it to a lab and don't do it in-house. It should be two blood draws, not a urine test...that's less accurate) T4 (thyroid blood test...can probably skip for now but not a bad idea) Urinalysis I just got a CBC, General Health Panel and T4 done for Ellie sent to Idexx for about $77. The bile acids test is around $75 here. Urinalysis is about $25. A little something I didn't know but Ellie's vet explained (most vets would probably rather you didn't know) is that the CBC platelet count in-house may not be too accurate. Even if they offer the CBC in-house, you may want them to send it to a lab, especially if the results come back abnormal the first time. She just sent everything (CBC, blood panel and T4) to Idexx because she says you get more for less. Not sure if all equipment for CBCs is the same though and some vet offices might get more accurate reading than others.

| Thank you everyone. I just want to make sure that she is as health as a horse. It scared me when she didn't grow for so long, so even more reason to have it done.
